I'm so glad you're asking about SL! My son (Mild Autism, SI Dysfunction) is undergoing this therapy right now. I've never been so excited about an intervention as I have this one. Tomorrow will be our last day in Newnan (our 12th day), and then we'll continue to give him the visual part of the program at home for the last 18 days of the month. has been showing small improvements almost daily since starting the therapy. They say this is how it starts. And of course, it may take a couple of months to see the bigger changes.

I've run into several mothers at the center whose children have already taken the therapy, and I've heard nothing but fantastic things about their experiences. If you want some specifics on what I've heard, please call me at (478) 474-5358, and I'll be glad to share what I know. What I've seen and heard is absolutely incredible! I don't know if this therapy is for every child out there, but I believe it's the best thing we've done for so far. Because of the way he's responding to the treatments, I really believe we're going to see some BIG improvements with him within the next few months.

For anyone who wants more information about SL, you can contact the Sensory Learning Center at (770) 683-0250. It's worth the call! And thank you Grabe! If it weren't for you, I may not have heard about SL!

Sensory Learning Program

Hi Everyone!

I know people in the group had mentioned the 30 day Sensory Learning Program awhile back . Our support group in Forsyth Co. had the owners come and speak at our monthly meeting on Tuesday. We wanted some feedback from parents who have put their kids through the program, and if it is worth the cost of doing it. They are trying to get a place here in the Northside. Newnan, GA is a little far for us to drive. I do kind of remember a couple people saying it was a good program, but if you don't mind letting us know again. Thanks.

Well you are welcome Lanae- keep us posted after you get home. My son, Colter went through the program back in May- as some of you have read! He is still doing well. This is a rough time of year for him usually- and it usually last from Oct - until we hit the slopes in December. This year it has been much more manageable- we can talk about why he is so upset and give him ways to work through - what I think is depression. Anyway my point is SL still is impacting his life - he is becoming more social and language is still blossoming. Since we receive OT at the clinic- he still often request to get on the SL table (to me that speaks volumes). Before SL we were told he was not ready for a RDI program and now he is knee deep in one. The clinic is full of wonderful people with lot's of information- not only about SL, but Reflex, and SI, and advocacy and financial support. The crew at Inter Activ is one of a kind!

Best of luck if I can help in anyway give me a call

My son was in the very first session of the Sensory Learning

Program. He started March 29th. Over the past seven months we have

seen a huge change in all areas - language, social skills, etc. He

has gone from one and two word phrases only using the first

syllables of all words with limited spontaneous speech to speaking

in sentences with tons of spontaneous speech (also has apraxia so

his speech can still be unclear). Follows directions beautifully

and has no obvious sensory issues. He will be 3 years old this

month and is functioning beautifully in a typical preschool. As far

as testing he functions at or above age level in all

areas...including speech but the function and articulation of speech

is still very difficult. I think this biggest impact it had on him

was awareness. This awareness changed everything for him and he

seems to be learning much more naturally. Therapy prior to SL was

not as beneficial and productive as it is now and we saw a real

change in him during and after the program. There was no overnight

miracle but long term has been amazing. I'm not saying that

he's " typical " but he is getting closer everyday. We still have our

issues. Of course, every child responds differently but I have

spoken with alot of very pleased parents. Just my two cents. Good

Luck!!!

We began the sensory program with Gregg yesterday at their temporary Atlanta location. It is in the Dunwoody area off of exit #30. I was under the impression that the home light therapy would be for 20 minutes - not 20 seconds - but we haven't gotten that far yet, so I'm not positive. I'll post again after we complete the program with any results - positive or negative.

, if I'm not mistaken, the cost is now $3,000 (?) -- check me on this. The # is (770) 683-0250. Gregg & Tara are opening another location in Atlanta soon, by March at the latest. No parental training is necessary. After your 12 days in clinic, you'll bring home a computerized light for the visual therapy, and basically your child sits in front of it until it shuts off at 20 seconds (It was 20 for us, I'm not sure if it's different for others). So, no training is necessary, and still enjoyed the light here at the house.

How much does this program cost and how long does it last? It sounds very interesting for Owen, but we live in Marietta and work full time. The only location in Georgia is in Newnan? Are the parents involved, trained in any way to continue the therapy? Thanks for any info.

The home light program is twice a day for 20 minutes. The program is a 30 day program- the first 12 days are in clinic (you do not do home light program during this time). After the 12 days they send you home equipped to do the 18 day home program.

Hope that helps!
