Guest guest
Dear , Thank you for sharing with us your history. I am 51 now, and have CMT type 1a and like you...didn't know I have it until my 30's something. My mom had it and me and my 2 brothers in Brazil also got it. Now, you are 33 years old, very young and many things you can do if really happen to be CMT your real diagnose. I would like to tell you something a doctor told me long, long time ago... Exercises is the most important thing! Swimming is also very important...everyday, 20 minutes!!!! Gosh...I though ...I never listened to my doctor ...NEVER! I just carry on doing absolute nothing about until one day I started to feel a very funny sensation on my right foot...like numbness...give away, etc.. I could not walk and I had a kind of panic attack after that...Remember also being very upset and scared to walk in the streets...Time went by and I got somehow a bit better but still not doing what I should have done ...how silly of me. When I started through the menopause , I got really scared because I had being so weaker and had pain all over my body, depression, etc. Everything got much worse and then YES, I decided to take charge of the health situation...Now, why I am telling you all this? Because I really hope you are not going to be sitting down and do nothing about it and get worse like me, understand ? It is now the time to do something, and YES, you are the only one who should be stronger and positive about this. It is your life and you want to be fine and happy out there don't you? So, If I would be 33 now, I would go to a good nutritionist, a very good physiotherapist, or personal trainer who has a good understand about CMT . Those people could put you on a program design specially for you to start slowly exercising. Exercises would help you to keep your muscles and nerves stronger . Also would help to slow the progression of the CMT .... , do not despair, think positive, you are not alone here... We are here, and we all have it , but in different ways, etc... The only thing I can tell you is that, if you start to take the right supplements, eat the right food, have control of your body and go to the pool and exercises more, surely you will feel much better in yourself. I am now at the gym and I could see how much better I got in comparison with last year. So, You are only 33 and have a life in front of you, just put a smile in your face and go for it now! Please, feel free to email me anytime ... I am in London but here at we are a big family and we can share all our problems and it is really a blessing this web site. I hope I could help you somehow. All the best wishes always! Stay happy and DO NOT GIVE UP! Hugs Joana from London
