Guest guest
Friends, Did some cursory checking and whoever said 25 grams is right...but it is I believe of lauric acid and not coconut milk, and it is effective against " a variety of microorganisms. Those include bacteria, yeast, fungi, and enveloped viruses... " If someone heard of it being effective against larger organisms would you say something about it? Again just from cursory reading it seemed to me that getting that amount might be better done with coconut oil rather than milk, if you want a real " regime " . My Chinese herbalist said coconut milk is " damping " and would be better balanced by taking it with ginger. There is also some lauric acid in heavy cream. I made a curry with coconut milk last night and had some strange reactions including itching...am wondering if it was some kind of die-off. ~^^V^^~
Guest guest
There are a wealth of coconut products available to consumers around the world. In the U.S., however, there are only a handful of foods available that are manufactured with a significant level of coconut (i.e., desiccated coconut, coconut milk, etc.), and even fewer that contain no additives and/or preservatives or are not made with coconut oil processed with solvents. [solvent extraction with liquid hexane -- a petroleum derived solvent -- allows coconut oil manufacturers to increase their yields by using solvents to capture some of the remaining coconut oil that traditional milling cannot remove.] Below is a product list containing brand names, origin, manufacturer's contact information, lauric and capric acid composition, and rating scale (i.e., 0 to 5, 5 being the highest) based on appropriateness for inclusion in a nutritional support protocol. Lauric.org welcomes all submissions by manufacturers of products that fall under the category of functional food and may be suitable for inclusion in this list.Brand Origin POC Lauric Acid/Capric Acid Rating Jennies Macaroons U.S.1 www.redmillfarms.com 7.0 g per 2 oz 0.8 g per 2 oz 5 Grace Coconut Milk Sri Lanka www.gracefoods.com 3.5 g per 2 oz 0.4 g per 2 oz 3 Taste of Thai Coconut Milk2 Thailand www.andreprost.com 3.5 g per 2 oz 0.4 g per 2 oz 2 Taste of Thai Lite Coconut Milk2 Thailand www.andreprost.com 0.9 g per 2 oz 0.1 g per 2 oz 0 Coconut Balance Bar U.S. www.balancebar.com 0.8 g per 2 oz 0.1 g per 2 oz 0 1 Philippine SO2-free coconut. 2 Contains potassium metabisulfite (a preservative).
