Guest guest
Georgia, Like you, I was delighted at the prospect of graduating from bulky plastic AFOs to the thinner Toe-Offs. They were certainly more cosmetically appealing, could be worn with more styles of shoes, and cost about $900 apiece two years ago. Unfortunately, they failed after about 4 months, delaminating at the juncture of the foot plate and the upright. The company was good about the one-year warranty, and replaced them for free--three times the first year. When the next version, the Ypsilon, became available my insurance paid for a new set. While these were sturdier than the Toe-Offs, they also failed after 6 months. This was very disappointing since I am not heavy and didn't do anything more strenuous than walking, so it wasn't a case of misuse of the product. My orthotist finally gave up and recommended that I go to Las Vegas to be fitted with the Helios bracing system which corrects not only the foot drop but the whole alignment of my feet and lower legs. It was expensive, but it was like a miracle. I have my life back! I stand tall and straight, have a fluid gait, can walk the length of the mall, and stand without support for hours. I hope the Walk-ons work for you, and that you have a better experience than I did. Donna in New Hampshire
