Guest guest
Yes, was diagnoised at 4.5 with epilepsy. Even before the EEG the neuro at Kennedy Kreiger pointed out her seizures and the types. We took her because of the eyeblinking and the drop ones.He told us then he saw the absent ones. We just did an EEG(sleep deprived) in November while she was off meds and it picked them all up. She was on depakote for about 5 years with risperdal added as an antipsychotic mainly for the side effects of the depakote. After adding risperdal we lost control of her seizures but didn't connect the dots. About a year ago I was reading about risperdal and discovered it could cause seizures. We removed it.She still had seizures but alot less. The side effects of depakote became awful. She raged terribly. tends to react to meds thru behaviors. We weaned her off of depakote all last summer. Then we got in to a behavior psych. and he wanted to medicate again. We finally decided to.We put her Lamictal which made her jerk with them and the anxiety went thru the roof. It was a nightmare. The only places she would go were school and home.Anywhere else and she just screamed. We got in at Hershey and the neuro there witnessed it.She wanted to hospitalize. I said no,just get her off of this stuff. She agreed and we did dilantin for two weeks. The second week she changed and became much happier.Like off meds. Then she broke out with a rash and that ended that. That dr agreed about the risperdal.Oh, the psych had never heard of rispedal causing seizures. We even had tested her with it and with one dose she would start jerking. He half argued but when I went to leave the office and after he looked it up and I showed him, he told me he believed me. Last month he told me he got to checking his patients with seizures and risperdal and most lost control and the seizures changed when they went on it. Now he is paranoid about the drugs.LOL! We tried zonegran for seizures abd then added abilify for the side effect of that. Her regular neuro told me agression was very high on the list for side effects and with 's history of behaviors from meds not to even question when we saw it.We were to call her and she would confer with the psych and get her on it.When I called she was on vacation and the fill in tried to tell me that zonegran did not cause aggression. DUH!! Read the drug info. Anyway they decided to try abilify and things dramatically improved. Anxiety has lessen but we still have problems with crowds. We use ativan as needed. Today we have upped the abilify to see if that helps. We can get her to church as long as she stays in the basement and out of the upstairs. She doesn't scream and beg to go home if she sits with someone else besides me.I guess I am her ride home andshe knows that. She does the same with my husband. No one else has taken her home so she doesn't ask them.LOL! Anyway, this is a book! Sorry! I think you are in Hagerstown. Correct? I am just up in Chambersburg. Elaine J sometimes does some of that. Did the Dr. tell you that she was having seizures when she does that? thanks, Lois
Guest guest
Well, Lois, whatever you and the doctor decide on Tuesday is certainly worth a try and will not have the possible harmful side effects that Risperdal has. I'll be interested in how it goes. Pat K
Guest guest
Lois, that hard head nod and jerk is one of the symptoms of Tardive Dystonia which may be caused by the Risperdal over time. Pat K
Guest guest
Elaine, YES! I live in hagerstown! WOW!! Here is my phone number.....240-420-3692. Maybe J is having seizures and I don't even know it! Before puberity he was the most laid back child with autism you would ever meet. When he hit 12 BOOM! up and down! Maybe the risperdal has caused alot of J's movemeants and such. I am weaning him off of it and I see the Dr. tuesday. His name is Dr. Badoy and he is from kennady krigher (sp)? but has an office here. he said something about giving J a sedative. His anxiety is bad! He hit at the speech lady yesterday and he has never done that before. But he has hit at his aid and sometimes me. I wish I knew what it is.
