Guest guest
My husband has CMT type 1A. He is in his 30s and his symptoms aren't too bad yet. It seems that they are gradually worseing but his still runs marathons, climbs mountains, etc. We are planning on trying to have a child soon, so a lot of issues are coming up. If our child had CMT with his level of severity it wouldn't be too bad, but he fears passing down something worse for generations to come. We will be meeting with a genetic counselor to talk about the specifics However, I was wondering if any of you know if the severity of CMT stays the same when passed down or if children could have a more severe (or more mild) form. I am pretty sure that they can only inherit the same type (1A) but there is a large spectrum within that type. Also, was wondering how people have deal with knowing you have the disease and deciding to have children? My husband thinks we should consider adopting because he is very afraid. Thank you!
