Sleep-inducing effect of kombucha?

Hi everyone:

It's usually the case that people worry about kombucha keeping them UP

at night because of the caffeine in tea, but I just talked to someone

who said the opposite was the case w/ her. She's a newbie to

kombucha, and she said her initial reaction was to fall asleep. She

apparently had to take several naps throughout the day and had to

fight off going to sleep in between. She was consuming 4 oz. to start

with, and she says the effect is gradually going away but she was

comletely unprepared for it. She also said her first batch was much

sweeter than she expected.

Some possibilities I suggested to her are too much sugar in her brew

(and to let her kombucha brew for longer), and the detoxifying and/or

dehydrating effect of kombucha (and to make sure to drink lots of

water). Anyone have any other thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

Nori
