Guest guest
LP, My blood tests for CMT came back negative. However, there are so many types/subtypes of CMT and there isn't testing for all of them. I went to a neurologist who then sent me to a specialist. It was a combination of the EMG results, my family history and a very extensive physical exam that resulted in my CMT type 2 diagnosis. So yes the genetic testing can come back negative because of all the different types of CMT. The best advice I can give is to find a good neurologist who knows about CMT. Another thing is sometimes you may never know where CMT comes from in your family. This could be for different reasons. Alot of people may have it but because the symptoms are different for everyone, they may never inquire about it. Some don't have any pain while others are in pain every day with every step. I haven't been able to find anyone in my family with CMT and because my father died when I was very young we can never get his history. Good luck to you and your sister.
