Guest guest
Deborah great progress, wow. Are you using DMPS? When did he first get language of any kind? TIA Vicky
Guest guest
>Deborah What a lovely inspirational story!! How wonderful to see such developments! We have done about 6mths DMPS. We had some lovely NT behaviours yesterday with the Scary Sounds Machine - battery operated gadget that does Haunted House - creaking door, howling woolf, scarey laugh. kept on wanting to press the button but at same time couldn't run away fast enough - he was just enjoying scaring himself! . He had some fantastic terrified expressions which would have been really good for our ABA expressive emotions in vivo programme! This really is progress for someone who has always been sound sensitive and can hear an ambulance siren from miles away. Also came out with 'I'm going to eat sausages later' when in the middle of his peas, rice and sausage dinner, meaning 'I'm saving this piece of sausage to the very end' He proceeded to eat up every scrap of rice and peas so he could then savour his last piece of sausage - no way was he going to share it with Mummy! Guest guest
Dear Deborah, My mascara is running!! What wonderful news. My son is 8 and only started biomed (done the diets for years and ABA). We are seeing big improvements on biomed but your story is such an inspiration that it certainly will keep us going. Thanks and good luck Elaine From: Autism Treatment [mailto:Autism Treatment ] On Behalf Of MONXYMOO@... Sent: 20 March 2006 13:44 To: Subject: Re getting better ..... Hi all ( especially Mandi & Sharon - hi girls!!!!!!!!) just a quick update on Charlie as I am so pleased.. Charlie was sooooooo sick just after christmas and I had to stop chelating. Could have done the drops but he couldn't keep any food or his vits and mins down and it was just all too much for him. Then I got flu and the gap extended so he missed chelation for about six weeks. During that time he just got calmer and more together. He started trying really hard to construct sentences to really explain what he meant - sometimes rolling his eyes back with sheer concentration at trying to get it all just right. We started chelation again about two weeks ago ( slowly) and he was very emotional and cranky but that is begining to reduce and i am seeing such a lovely little leap in sociabilty! He came up to me while I was preparing dinner and asked " what you doing " .. i was cutting carrot and offered him a knife to help. He cut a piece and put it in the pot. I asked him to lick some and he laughed and said no but I said " go on Char- just try " and he said " little lick " - AND DID !!! He then sat at dinner with us y and chose his place, sitting down next to his brother with a cheery wave and " hello Louis - what you doing? " He asked me to help him cut his chicken and then REMAINED at the table with us until we had all finished and Madeleine asked him to go play on the trampoline. He said OK and we watched the two of them play until Moo wanted to come backto the house and Charlie got her shoes and tried to help her put them on !!!!!!!!. He came in and then about half an hour lated came to find me and said " mummy, Charlie clean it up, spilt drink, all messy, get a cloth, wipe it clean , all clean, all better, good boy Charlie, did it, all tidy now , no more mess " Blimey !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sure enough he had done just that and i had a clean kitchen floor with a whole kitchen towel in the bin LOL . I was at his IEP meeting on Friday and they are staggered at how his is doing. Language is still a big problem ( although slowly improving ) but his socialbility and just plain ordinary comprehension of what is going on around him is moving along so nicely. They actually said they are not sure that his school is going to be able to meet his needs if he continues to improve so which was a bit of a shock but goodness - what a nice problem to have. He is no where near mainstream but he may need an enviroment that can just challenge him a bit more. The thing that the school are most thrown by is his ability to understand what others are thinking and feeling. For example he wrote christmas lists of what his family would like as presents and was 90% spot on, without any one prompting him or giving clues and without suggesting things that anyone had asked for or mentioned - his brother is 12 and likes gamecube and usual 12 year old stuff. Charlie said he though Louis would like a gamecube game and a dinosaur book. Louis LOVED those things but had not asked anyone for either - they were totally Charlies ideas. Charlie chose the book for Louis, helped me wrap it and put it under the tree and was then all proud when Louis opened it and loved it . I guess i am posting because I know you guys will all understand how wonderful these improvements feel when your child is as old as 9 - and i want to encourage anyone out there with an older child. Charlie has been on chelation with td dmps for just over a year now and , after slow steady progress this obvious improvement is just happening now at month 13 .. Keep sticking with it - our big kids just take a bit longer . He is incredibly happy and each improvement makes life a bit easier. My eldest son was very emotional last night after a Sunday full of tickling and trampoline and playing building games with Charlie. The two of them kept having massive hugs and kisses and Louis just said that he felt like he was getting his brother back at last. I don't think Charlie will ever loose all his issues he still has major major problems but he is so happy - what a journey this is ! regards Deborah

Guest guest
Hi Deborah, This is really inspiring! I too have a 9 year old and am chelating - this gives me great motivation to push on!
