I once asked author/lecturer, Robbins, if 3 million years of

eating meat(raw & cooked) by our ancestors was sufficient to adapt us

to a mostly animal protein/fat diet. He mentioned something about the

intestinal length of " true " carnivores(lions). He didn't respond to

my question with an informed, intelligent answer. Of course we have

adapted to a hunter-gather diet. Recent revisions by

paleo/anthropological researchers estimate our animal protein/fat

intake at 50-75% on the average with the rest being nuts, fruits,

vegetables, insects, etc. I respect the work of Robbins,

Lyman and other vegans when it concerns organic agriculture and

humane raising of livestock and against " factory farming. " However,

their advocacy of vegan/vegetarian diets for infants/children and

teens is not only wrong scientifically/medically but also dangerous

to their health and cognitive development. Dr.

article, " Myths of Vegetarianism " is at www.westonaprice.org as are

the articles of Enig and Sally Fallon on the toxic dangers of

unfermented soy products and hydrogenated vegetable oils. Go to

http://chetday.com/cordaininterview.html for an overview on the human

paleodiet. It's questionable if we've genetically adapted to eating

grain products in the last 10,000 or so years(see www.mercola.com)

for more info. - McCoy-

On your topic I will include below a post I sent several months ago,

which is again very relevant.

*******

* Archeologists determine whether ancient human remains are from

hunter/gatherer tribes or from farming (agriculturist) tribes by the

condition of the remains. Hunter/gatherer remains always indicate that

the people were tall, strong and lean.

* Remains of agriculturists show a smaller, weaker body structure and

unhealthy teeth. They show an average of 7 cavities, while

hunter/gatherer teeth have an average of less than 1 cavity per person

(.73 per person).

* Since the beginning of farming practices approximately 200-300

generations ago, which is when carbohydrates began to replace animal

protein and animal fats in the diet, overall human health has been

deteriorating.

* Geneticists say that over 1000 generations are required before a

change in dietary habits can be accomodated for by physical adaptation of

the human body. For thousands of generations before the advent of

agriculture, mankind was primarily a meat-eater. Then, within the last

200-300 generations came agriculture. With agriculture came an

increasing reliance upon regular grain harvests for food and a decrease

in the reliance upon meat and animal products for food. With these

changes came the erosion of health.

* This reduction in the amounts of animal based proteins and fats and

the increase of carbohydrates in the diet is responsible for the majority

of illnesses in the " advanced " societies.

* Once humans get back to the more natural " primitive " diet of high

quality animal proteins and fats (especially the Omega 3 and 6 oils

found in fish and other meats), overall health will improve fairly

rapidly.

* Cravings for stimulants such as coffee, sugar, tobacco and alcohol

are so widespread because the body (especially the brain) is not getting

the amino acids that are so common in meat and dairy products (especially

meat). Once these foods are brought back into the diet in the right

proportions, the cravings for stimulants disappear.

* The current " fads " for low fat vegetarian-based diets are causing

major health problems.
