Guest guest
Francis Bill I had a serum cortisol 8 AM and 4 PM done. The literature indicates that this is not the gold standard that the 24-urine cortisol or the late-night serum/salivary cortisol. The intermittent Cushie's will sometimes suppress low dose DM and sometimes the salivary one doesn't pick it up-so I'm asking for the 24-h cortisol when I 'm having one of my highs... I guess Cushing's is hard to diagnose with lots of false neg.(these patients go on to have surgically proven Cushing's) So I guess I think they need to look into this a bit more before they push me into nephrology.. The process of elimination works when they are lost/symptoms are not specific for one disease or another but it has to be done accurately! I don't feel this is the case and my family doctor obviously doesn't feel the endo is catching it either if she is ordering an MRI on her accord.. On the cushing's site I researched hypokalemia and ... I don't remember the other symptom and I swear, her story was almost identical to mine. Here doctor only did the serum cortisol, she asked for the urine, 3 doctors later, they finally agreed to the 24 urine cortisol that came back abnormal.... Another lady, cushing's without moon face, 10 years to get diagnosed, had the tumor removed.... So I guess if the endo. feels in the beginning that I am merely " salt-sensitive " and only on my insisting, he looks further, I should have known better. Not many endos around here to choose from. I'll try to remain positive but I don't my endo. is looking to find it, he wants to see what nephro has to say. I truly believe it to be endocrine related because of my temperature high/low, my energy high/low, my mood high/low, my wt.increasing, salt sensitivity, blood pressure, pigment changes, vision changes... If it was kidney I don't think I would have the mood changes etc or pigmentation issues. Anyhow, Had a nice (short) walk outside because today isn't my worse day, attempting to get some Vit D (sunny and 8 degrees) and do a little bit of activity when my muscles aren't too achy. If the muscles aren't too rubbery/weak, I'd like to walk a bit now and then. I don't want to overdue it either but jeezz, my body is getting out of shape. Also, thinking of working (volunteer) for 1-2 hours now and then to see how it goes/see what is happening in my workplace, been out so long with my mom's illness, mat. leave and now, my health. My energy/weakness/dizziness comes on so quickly I don't want to commit/get paid in case I need to leave but then again, I'm afraid to go back and catch the flu. I haven't received the flu shot, undecided and also even if I wanted it, not in a priority group. Maybe I'll sit tight at home and stay put. That's it for now, toddler up from her nap. Guest guest
I don't have the urine sodium, I can ask the doctor, is it possible it wasn't checked? My potassium was 3.5 (3.6-5.5) and my sodium was 138 (135-146) Do you think I should ask for a repeat 24 h urine Na and K if I do the 24 hour cortisol ? I wonder if the one collection would suffice for both cortisol and Na/K? Guest guest
I think your eye doctor can tell if you may have cushings or something else. Right now this is your best bet. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > That's sorta the thing in the PSA > > > > test. Guest guest
You have seen some of what my doctors have told why I am sick. None have really thought I might PA. You have made a educauted guess that I probably have it. You did this by matching what I put on here with signs and sysptoms something any of the many doctors I have at both Dartmouth and the VA should have done. Since they failed to see what you saw I have ended up here. I came to this groupe because I searched for my own answers as I think many others here have done. If all doctors did as you say then this group most likey wouldn't be. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > That's sorta the thing in the PSA > > > > test. Guest guest
If eye doctor is good they know many things. There are some eye problems that are realted to other diseases. Cushings being one of them. A brain tumor being another. It is not that eye doctor will DX Cushings but may tell if she possibly has it. If doctor see nothing related to Cushings then she can rule her eye problem out as being related to it. Once this is known then she or her other doctors can rethink what she has. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > That's sorta the thing in > > the PSA > > > > > > test. Guest guest
I'm anxious to see the local eye specialist. Guest guest
Hmm, interesting, I'll have to look up the incidence of lyme in our region. I am in contact with animals and am a nature lover. In our province we haven't had a ton of Lyme so we're not into protecting against ticks overly aggressively. We play in the leaves, fields, woods etc. Years ago when my son was a toddler he had a " bulls'eye " rash that looked a lot like a tick bite but I haven't had any other human tick experiences. I've treated my animals off and on with revolution (mites, fleas, ticks) and one of my cats had a tick. Did you have a history of a tick bite. I know often times Lyme disease sufferers don't but just curious? Thanks for all input! Will look into further.. Guest guest
Chantal, hope you're still hanging in there, I am in the same boat. had an appt with my endo and my 24 hour cortisol came back 54 and range is under 45, he said he doesn't think I have cushings, but is redoing the 24 hour urine and ordered a midnight cortisol, only because I requested it. He is not being a very good doc at all, didn't look at my symptoms and just said all my blood work is coming back normal. Other then the cortisol, the aldosterone level was very low and he didn't have anything to say about it. I am currently going to see another endo next week hopefully. I am thinking adrenal fatigue maybe. I did find an interesting bit of info though, some people with copper IUD's have problems with the copper causing hypothyroid like symptoms. Take care and keep your chin up, we will find out what's wrong with us!!!! Guest guest
Here is one way lyme shows up. This is about one of nephews. as told by his mother. I spent the better part of today going between the doctor's office and hospital with for tests due to unexplained swelling in his knee. He has mentioned dull pain in this knee for about a month, but there has been no sign of injury, bite, or trauma of any sort, nor have there been any real mobility concerns. Over the course of this week, he has mentioned it nearly every day, and last night when he returned home from football practice, it was swollen nearly twice its usual size. They drained two huge syringes full of fluid from the knee, and while much improved, it is still very swollen. They showed concern because the fluid was not bloody at all, which would have pointed to trauma having caused this...and given some direction as to where to go with it. They did X-rays today, and ordered a fair amount of blood work...STAT, and the doctor called the house this evening to follow up and talk with us about how the visit to the orthopedist went. He has an appointment for an MRI tomorrow afternoon, and a follow up visit to the orthopedist on Wednesday. He has been ordered to stay off it until they know what it is we are dealing with. ...a pretty stressful day...and another one to come tomorrow. I just received a phone call from his doctor saying that the confirmatory tests for Lyme have also come out positive, so that is definitely what we are dealing with. He also said that his prognosis should be good with the 28 day course of antibiotics...saying of all the things this could have been--Lyme disease is the best. His orthopedist also said that could have been bit by a tick that never imbedded and got brushed or combed off so he never had it on him, had the rash, which only appears on 3/10 people under the hairline, and had minor cold symptoms which no one would have suspected to be due to anything but a cold--and the doctor would never have seen him for this. So, in a way, it was good that the knee swelled like it did, because it made people ask the right questions and do so agressively. > Here are pictures of Lyme rashes: http://www.lyme.org/gallery/rashes.html > Mine looked like this: http://www.lyme.org/gallery/em_sk6.html > This is what comes up in a search for Target lesions images: > http://images.google.com/images?q=Target%20lesions > <http://images.google.com/images?q=Target%20lesions & rls=com.microsoft:en-us: > IE-SearchBox & oe=UTF-8 & sourceid=ie7 & rlz=1I7GGIT_en & um=1 & ie=UTF-8 & sa=N & hl=en & t > ab=wi> > & rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox & oe=UTF-8 & sourceid=ie7 & rlz=1I7GGIT_en & u > m=1 & ie=UTF-8 & sa=N & hl=en & tab=wi > > > Val > > < span>From: hyperaldosteronism > [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of Clarence Grim > > Many things can cause Bull's Eye skin lesions aka Target lesions > Google images for some good pictures. >
Guest guest
Interesting, again my son did have a bull's eye rash as a toddler. I'll have to keep that in mind. Ugh, never a dull moment! He has had coincidentally knee problems on one side... NO swelling though. OMG, what next? Better yet, today my daughter's school is getting vaccinated against H1N1, Canada is so freaked out by this. We have confirmed cases getting closer by the day. The 1976 experience in the states is scary. My husband and I have decided to sit tight and hold off vaccinating the kids for the time being. I just want my kids home, enough of this nonsense and let's see what happens! Our region is not well equipped for sick kids at all. I don't want to expose them to this vaccine or the disease. I know it is eventually, most likely, going to happen. Gotta go, toddler looking to do crafts, sink full of dishes and a couch full of unfolded clothes. Deep breathes Could be a lot worse! > > Here are pictures of Lyme rashes: http://www.lyme.org/gallery/rashes.html > > Mine looked like this: http://www.lyme.org/gallery/em_sk6.html > > This is what comes up in a search for Target lesions images: > > http://images.google.com/images?q=Target%20lesions > > <http://images.google.com/images?q=Target%20lesions & rls=com.microsoft:en-us: > > IE-SearchBox & oe=UTF-8 & sourceid=ie7 & rlz=1I7GGIT_en & um=1 & ie=UTF-8 & sa=N & hl=en & t > > ab=wi> > > & rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox & oe=UTF-8 & sourceid=ie7 & rlz=1I7GGIT_en & u > > m=1 & ie=UTF-8 & sa=N & hl=en & tab=wi > > > > > > Val > > > > < span>From: hyperaldosteronism > > [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of Clarence Grim > > > > Many things can cause Bull's Eye skin lesions aka Target lesions > > Google images for some good pictures. > > >

Guest guest
Well, actually, even if my son wanted it, it isn't avail for him as of yet. That shark oil is what concerns me and my sister who is a nurse (has vaccinated for four clinics to date for H1N1 ) and it appears a lot of people , half ( similiar stats to the US) are concerned about the side effects of this vaccine.. It is actively in the region but the vaccine is only avail to the high priority groups right now in New Brunswick, so, the vaccine isn't going to be very effective if they are exposed to the H1N1 prior to getting it.. Anyway, this is a difficult question and every province, country, citizen has mixed concerns, opinions... All I know is that I already feel terrible as it is and I'm not keen on the vaccine or the illness Should be interesting..... No vaccine avail yet so no decision to be made...
