It's a new one on me. J. ~~~~~~~~~ Wow this is interesting. I went to the website and asked for more info. A few years ago I got interested in EWOT...or exercising with oxygen. I finally got together the whole array needed, oxygen tank, etc, and got to the trampoline with the oxygen mask on for a few bounces. Felt amazingly awful after, and it did not go away. In the middle of the night I got up and breathed into a paper bag, and instantly the symptoms went away. I had apparently adversely affected my blood gases. Later I found three interesting and clarifying pieces of info. I talked to Ray Peat, who had just returned from a summer in the Andes and felt wonderful after the high altitude. He told me that breathing oxygen actually lessens available oxygen, and that routine medical studies show that. I also found info on the Butyko method of breathing, which postulates that we need MORE CO2 in our lungs because it is CO2 that causes the oxygen molecule to transfer from the bloodstream to the cell. Finally I discovered that in Europe where EWOT has been successfully used, they use ozonated (can't remember exact details anymore, but I believe that was it) oxygen. Anyway, it wasn't just plain oxygen. In centers where they treat brain damaged children, one of the routine exercises is breathing into a paper bag for 2o minutes at a time, the theory seemingly being the same as in this hypoxia chamber. So I wonder if exercising breathing into a paper bag would have similar results? Of course you couldn't control the amount of CO2.... The whole theory seems the same as exercising with weights... People in high altitudes have larger lung capacity. Makes sense...could be the *answer* for people who can't exercise for some reason. I have a good intuition about this...I'm going to pursue it. Thanks mary...I love the info on this list! ~^^V^^~
