LOL! I would love the money and we sure do need it! We had not even begun to recover from Hurricane Katrina when we got our diagnosis! :(

And you are sooooooo right, we DESERVE it! But the money will never change things for Cody so I would much rather spare the next generation if possible, ya know? (I know, I am nuts to not push for the money....I hear that all the time!) :)

Money will change a lot, money can afford our kids the best DAN! treatments...

sometime Gavins treatments lapse a couple weeks at a time while I try to scrape up more money.

I would love some money.

Do you know what biomed for five costs? Since two of my dc had

immediate and severe reactions and regressions to their vaccines on

the SAME DAY, I figure the least the gov't that told us we HAD to

get these shots can do is pay for their medical care...

Gavin's costs right avg about $550 a month... for all his supplements(Dr N vitamins and detox booster, CLO and GLA, vit a/d, zinc and folinic acid, milk thistle, melatonin --I think that is it right now.), MB12 & numbing creme, glutathione, DMSA and the phone consults about every 8 weeks and labs ever 8 weeks (some of the labs are covered under our insurance, like the CBC and Chem panel) but the blood and urine thru Doctors Data is NOT....

so all that comes to an avg of $550 a month

NOW we have a Blue Cross Highmark PPO and I JUST NOW found out that great plains bills them so I may be able to save on labs --for a little while... as we are moving in 4 months and the PPO is cobra coverage and the state is paying for it and we will be dropped when we move to LA.

gavin has one rx, a seizure pill... Lamictal --i HATE giving it to him, since it is actually a pill given for bipolar, BUT it is NOT metabolised in the liver or kidneys, so it is the lesser of all the evils. Gavin will have a repeat EEG in July, I am hoping that its normal so we canstart talking about taking him off the meds.

I can't imagine biomed for 5! I am sorry.

The National Autism Association has a helping hands fund, you can apply for a one time grant of $1,500 if you get it you could use that to pay for evals of all your kids and from there at least you would know where you stand and you could get a better idea of what it would cost for you.

Hi

. Have you tried making a claim for the Doctors Data Labs under your

insurance? I know every policy is different, but I submit all my labs to blue

cross and they have covered all of them 100%. They have mostly been great

plains and DD labs. They even covered the urine toxic metals which surprised

me.

I never have the lab claim it, because Great Plains charges the insurance co

more and then we foot the full bill if they deny. Less risk to pay the cash

price upfront and then submit to the insurance. I had up to a year to submit

from the date of the lab test.

Also our compounding pharmacy makes the

claims to insurance for our compound meds too. In the past, TD glutathione, TD

DMPS, B12 shots were all covered. Our Rx deductible went up for compounds this

year though, so in some cases, the cost was less then the $50 deductible.

Hi Becky, I have BCBS also and was wondering what claim form you use

for the lab tests. I just sent our first batch of tests out last

week, and am looking for some info on the claim submittal process.

The claim form I have seems to pertain to a doctor's office visit. I

know we may have different plans under BCBS, but any insight into

this process would be greatly appreciated.

TIA, Kim

I had

to call the number on the back of my card and ask for the form, it’s not

available on the website. I think there are only 2 types of claims forms, one

for prescriptions and one for anything else (that is probably what you have).

The key is making sure the labs were coded

correctly to increase the chances of reimbursement. Most good DAN’s

will know how to code.

Well,

the billing is one thing, I think that would be unrealistic to expect. They

would be dealing with so many different insurance policies.

Coding, though, they should be coding

things correctly so then we can go try to get payment. I have only experienced

dealing with a DAN office that always codes correctly, so personally had no

issues. Locally, I find I have to tell parents the codes to tell their doctors.

Some follow DAN, but not trained, some are DAN’s but not as experienced.

IMO it should be DAN 101. There’s a pretty predictable set of codes

that we tend to have applied to our kids.

Becky

I have BCBS PPO and DD is never covered. There is a better financial option.

Why don't you use mainline medicine. I find it odd or rare that a DD lab is

covered by

insurance. Labcorp has a urine toxic metals kit 100% covered by insurance.

Your friendly,

financially sensitive DAN Dr. doesn't get a cut though. Why don't you ask them

to

prescribe labs covered by insurance? Say " Mr DAN Dr. can you prescribe the

labcorp

instead of the DD because I don't have enough money to buy the same lab? " Be

careful not

to mortgage your house more for labs that are currently covered by insurance.

Not all the

DAN Doctors are ethical or sensitive to the financial plight of these families

trying to treat

their children. I guess the financially strapped single mom or dad with 2 ASD

children and

insurance is not entitled to biomedical interventions under the current DAN

vision. This

money grubbing nonsense has gone on long enough. How dare ARI publicly call the

pharma industry greedy and continue to do what they do without attempting to

mainstream their practices. It is time for ARI to start working with mainline

medicine so

ALL these children have an opportunity to heal. I fully understand that they

have

uncovered and solved some of our children's problems. ARI has no plans

mainstream their

treatment, address insurance, validate all their treatments through peer

reviewed science,

or work with our local pediatricians.

Why is that? Is anyone is honest or brave enough to answer?

I KNOW! My lab test paperwork given to me by the DAN already had the

insurance info section crossed out becuase I guess they didn't want

me to even try going thruough the insurance, at least not until after

I had already paid for it! And as far as even asking any questions

regarding how I might go about getting reimbursed through the claim

process, their answer is " we don't deal with insurance " .

Does anyone know of a helpful medical insurance advice website? I

guess it would be kind of difficult since they are all so differnt,

but my god I feel like I need a course in it!

but my god I feel like I need a course in it!

TACA has a great insurance section on their site. I think you got most of the

question answered, but, why don't you think they will attempt to take insurance?

I can only speak for what I've experienced with our DAN. we see Dr.

Mumper and she runs as much as she can thru Labcorp so that it will

be covered by our ins. She's even called her office staff into the

room and had them check with Labcorp as to whether or not they have a

test. She does run things thru other labs but mostly she has used

Labcorp for us.

Thanks, I have viewed that info on their website and did find it

useful. As far as your question and I'm not sure if it was to me or

not, but my answer is I don't know. It is very intimidating though

because if the Dr office doesn't even deal with it, how am I going to

deal with it?

I have BCBS PPO and DD is usually covered. We use Mumper and she does send most of what we do through regular labs but I know most DAN docs don’t even bother. I have watched for years how parents leave a doctors office with a $5000 lab bill. It’s sickening that most docs don't consider finances. I have chosen not to use those doctors, as i am a fan of vote with your money. ;)

I agree that there is a better way. The DAN movement needs to get their head out and help us help our kids, and them in the long run.

They have become accustomed to us paying through the nose for their every whim to help our kids. We did it gratefully for so many years because they were the only ones who even bothered to help us. But at the same time, they never bothered to publish research or work with insurance companies or labs that are covered by insurance to help us help our kids. It’s been a very one-sided relationship.

We should be demanding that the ARI/DAN movement start actually publishing their data – that we paid for – so that when we go to the legislature and fight for autism insurance coverage, we have something to show the legislators that isn’t purely anecdotal crap. How can the legislators help us get our treatments covered if we cannot show them one scrap of proof that it works?? The DAN docs have had plenty of time, and we’ve “contributed” plenty of money to them that we deserve some help from them in order to help our kids.

It is true that not all our best tests are available at insurance covered labs, but the DAN docs and ARI have also had ample time to work with Labcorp and Qwest to create the panels that they need. I know there have been panels created for our kids at specialty labs, but without insurance coverage, while convenient, doesn’t help at all unless you have a sugar daddy to pay for it all. (send him my phone number!).

It shouldn’t be that only the rich can get treatment for their kids. But that’s what it’s become. If nothing else, all DAN docs should be taught how to code properly and send every parent home with the tools to collect as much reimbursement as they can. But there is no reason at all that they can’t pool a few phone consult fees (at $300 an hour all cash) from every doctor and start publishing the data they’ve collected from our kids. It’s time already.

I have BCBS PPO and DD is never covered. There is a better financial option. Why don't you use mainline medicine. I find it odd or rare that a DD lab is covered by insurance. Labcorp has a urine toxic metals kit 100% covered by insurance. Your friendly, financially sensitive DAN Dr. doesn't get a cut though. Why don't you ask them to prescribe labs covered by insurance? Say "Mr DAN Dr. can you prescribe the labcorp instead of the DD because I don't have enough money to buy the same lab?" Be careful not to mortgage your house more for labs that are currently covered by insurance. Not all the DAN Doctors are ethical or sensitive to the financial plight of these families trying to treat their children. I guess the financially strapped single mom or dad with 2 ASD children and insurance is not entitled to biomedical interventions under the current DAN vision. This money grubbing nonsense has gone on long enough. How dare ARI publicly call the pharma industry greedy and continue to do what they do without attempting to mainstream their practices. It is time for ARI to start working with mainline medicine so ALL these children have an opportunity to heal. I fully understand that they have uncovered and solved some of our children's problems. ARI has no plans mainstream their treatment, address insurance, validate all their treatments through peer reviewed science, or work with our local pediatricians. Why is that? Is anyone is honest or brave enough to answer? > >> > Hi . Have you tried making a claim for the Doctors Data Labs > under> > your insurance?
