Guest guest
I'm looking for information about allergists in Austin who deal with food allergies. If you have someone you recommend, please let me know. Carol cbellon@...
Guest guest
I would only take my son to an allergist that deals with autism, preferably one familiar with the DAN protocol. I originally went to an allergist for my son ten years ago, who argued with me and said milk/casien, wheat etc have nothing to do with developmental delays, even though I had seen for myself the effect it had on other children in my son's class. When I found out he could be tested for corn allergy (which I strongly suspected he had) the allergist told me to wait six months until the next round of testing for the corn test. I'm still angry with that doctor!! Anyway I went elsewhere and got a proper diagnosis. Allergies can definitely affect behavior. My son tantrums, screams and becomes aggressive/destructive within ten minutes of ingesting anything with a corn product (including the sugars = dextrose, corn syrup etc). If your near Long Island NY there's a Dr. Boris in Syossett who's not only an allergist, but follows the DAN protocol. Any DAN Doctor can perform the allergy testing for you though. If anyone has taken their child to an allergist, does it have to be an allergist that specializes in autism or can it be regular allergist. I really wouldlike to try to rule out any other causes before I put him on medication. I know that my medical insurance will probably cover a regular allergist. Guest guest
My son is not autistic, but does have a LOT of food allergies and intolerances. Our visit to the allergist was the biggest waste of time and money we ever spent. We went there after he had a serious reaction to pears at 5 months old, and the allergist did just the basic 8 scratch test, all came back normal, and he told us it was probably a fluke, and also that food allergies don't cause eczema so not worry. BIG MISTAKE on our part for listening to him. I don't want to ramble on and on, so long story short, we later took him to a GI due to other symptoms, all the tests they did came back normal as well, BUT, the GI told us that the tests are not 100% acurate and the only way to tell for SURE what the problems are, is to take them all out and reintro one at a time. It worked great for us b/c after being off all allergens for 10 days, he had immediate and signifigant reactions to some foods we brought back, including corn, which had not been on my suspect list. He's now doing much better, growing, and ahead of the developmental curve. I think a lot of that has to do with identifying problem foods at a young age. I have a food allergy group foodallergiesinkids for any parents who are dealing with any types of food allergies. There are several parents of autistic children, most on the GFCF diet. There's also a recipe list (just started, but should grow quickly!) Guest guest
Sorry no allergest referral, when I went, it was through my insurance/hmo But it seem you may have 'year round' allergies, so if eliminating foods hasn't helped, then perhaps it could be something from an animal if you have them, or even dust mites. Good luck! From: yael.grauer@... Date: Thu, 26 Jan 2012 10:53:07 -0600 Subject: allergist I am trying to figure out what I am allergic to, as I always seem to be stuffed up and haven't narrowed down the food culprit despite elimination diets. Does anybody know a reputable, but affordable, allergist? -- *Yael Grauer **Freelance Writer *Home: (612) 200-9609 Cell: (715) 456-4273 * *http://yaelwrites.com

Guest guest
One reason that elimination diets can be tricky with adults is that many adult acquired allergies are delayed reactions. Delayed reactions complicate the process because they can show up in just a few hours or even a couple of days. I have found out that my feelings that " I'm just not a morning person " really have been delayed allergic responses peaking each morning. Don't give up....I believe there is hope for us all! > > I am trying to figure out what I am allergic to, as I always seem to be > stuffed up and haven't narrowed down the food culprit despite elimination > diets. Guest guest
Me too. changed my life for sure. Also cured my two kids of allergies, they started at about five years old. They are 31 now with no allergies at all. It's a long trip and it is not cheap, but I think cheaper than being sick and getting shots that don't help.
