Hi :

I have rosacea, which appears to be affected by stress and hormones

more than anything else. It first surfaced during the period when I

was breastfeeding my last baby, then it went away after she was weaned

and was completely absent for a few years, then it cropped up again

recently in response to a stressful few months at work. I began

drinking kombucha while my rosacea was in remission and for at least a

year before my rosacea cropped up again, so I guess it wasn't enough

to keep it away, unfortunately! However, I have read at least one

other account on the Web of how it helped someone w/ this condition.

I continue to drink it because I believe it supports overall health

and it doesn't trip any of the triggers that me flush. However, if

your skin is sensitive, I would use it topically with caution, and if

KT gives you a " buzz " or makes you flush, then I would also use

moderation when drinking it since rosacea is really a vascular

disorder and not a skin condition per se.

Other natural remedies that have been reported to help rosacea are

green tea extract cream, zinc oxide cream, oil of oregano taken

internally, and diets high in essential fatty acids (e.g., flax seed

oil). And of course avoiding the things that make you flush, using

physical (not chemical) sunscreens, gentle cleansing, etc. Most of

this I learned from another discussion group on rosacea.

Hi Judy - It's great to hear that kombucha has been beneficial for

your breakouts! I just wanted to clarify, though, for the benefit

of others who may have rosacea, that acne and rosacea are NOT the

same things, and treatments that may work for acne (like ProActiv)

may make rosacea worse. As I understand it, acne is a disorder of

the sebaceous glands. cea, in contrast, is a disorder of the

blood vessels close to the surface of the skin. They are

chronically dilated and the skin becomes very sensitive, flushes

easily, etc. There are some papules, which make the skin look as if

it has acne. Traditional treatments for acne (like salycilic acid

and exfoliating ingredients, which I believe ProActiv products

contain) are irritating and not good for rosacea.

Anyway, just thought I'd clarify. More rosacea information can be

found on:

http://www.internationalrosaceafoundation.org/

Best wishes,

Nori

Acne cea is also thought to be caused by a parasite that lives in the

skin. Since KT is antiparasitic, it should help with it.

I apologize if this question has already been answered. bounced me

off all my groups for a few days before I realized it, and won't let me

read the archives for the posts I missed.

Judy and others: I have been curious about the culture applied to the skin

because I have very sensitive skin and tend to break out in a rash in

response to allergens. How do you prepare the culture cream, can it be

prepared in advance, and if so how long can it be kept?

Judy,

You said you use a culture cream? Is this something you make

yourself using a scoby or do you buy it?

Proactiv is a commercial product advertised on TV for acne.

To and .

I take a scoby and put it in a blender with about a 1/2 cup of tea

and grind it as smooth as possible, then I add minerals and powdered

vitamin C. I put this mixture on my face before going to bed. I also

have the same mixture with moisturizer in it. I vary between the two.

Judy,

Thank you (and I'm taking note of all the recipes being given). How long

does one of the preparations last? Do you keep it on the shelf or in the

fridge?
