Guest guest
Oh -I feel for you. My kids went to wild schools. I was ALWAYS there talking to someone. My son had the problems not my daughter. Ask if Adam could be let out of class a few minutes early to beat the crowds. If you have to change schools. Schools are usually funded by how many children are enrolled so that may explain the lack of resourcs. I'll bet he could be given home help like Gretchen stated. You just keep pushing for his equal eduaction and you'll get it! Best of luck........ Been there done that Barb
Guest guest
G, The school he is in now is strapped for cash. It was a temporary school now turned semi permanent because of budget cut backs. I think I am going to have to hire a tutor. The teacher knows someone that can tutor him at 15 bucks an hour... I just don't know what to do. I am glad you understood about the wild middle school campus. I feel like living here with these schools is doing an injustice to my kids. But the doctors are wonderful. More CMT life altering BS.
Guest guest
Barb, Again I am happy to hear that I am not the only one with wild schools. He could be let out of class early or I can restrict his day to just a few teachers. I am thinking now to try the tutor. blah Thank you. Guest guest
I had a horrible time in middle school because of all the steps I had to endure. I survived because I would not give up. I have learned from an early age to have a strong will regarding my CMT. High school got better as there were no steps. My senior year my CMT had progressed so much that I had to start using a wheelchair. Ok, I got off of the point here. What the school allowed me to do is leave my classes 5 minutes early so I would not be trampled between classes. I had a personal aide for my middle & high school years to help me. The school paid for this " service " . Not sure how all this was put into place. I think my mother & the school nurse worked all this out. I did graduate after all the years of h*** I went thru.. i.e. teasing, etc.
Guest guest
, At least you've got a few different roads to go to figure out the best solution for Adam.I think middle school is the hardest. Good luck in whichever road you choose. And yes, when my two were in middle and high schools ALL the area schools were wild!!! At times it was scary too. Guest guest
Hi Barb, Today I went and picked up the transfer packet to put Adam into the wild middle school. Everyone was really nice and happy to see me. I have a transfer IEP meeting set for next Tuesday with the new school and old school. Adam seems relieved to be getting an actually resource class. I hope it improves his attitude. It is scary at this school too. Thank you so much, makes me feel not so alone.
Guest guest
That is wonderful that you had a personal aide! I want Adam to have a personal aid but the school told me no. Leaving 5 mins early is a great idea. I was going to have him leave 5 mins late. Early is better. I am very worried about him being trampled. Thank you
Guest guest
- Did you have the IEP meeting today? Barb
Guest guest
Yes I did Barb, thanks for asking. I had the IEP and then took the paper work over to the new school and registered him. He starts Monday. I have it set up that they will re-evaluate him in 30 days. I was just thinking if a few accommodations that I need for him already. He needs a set of school books for home and I need to make sure he is allowed to sit in a chair and not on the ground. Adam just told me he has been in trouble for not doing P.E and the dumb P.E teacher makes him sit on the field as punishment. I am really upset that I am just finding this out and I am glad he is changing schools. I should never had trusted a regular P.E teacher with him. Lesson for the day is to have him in Adaptive P.E no matter what. The new school has a great APE teacher. He is the same APE teacher that I had when I was in 7th grade. Not a tradition I wanted but I will take it. UGH I could really use some good modification advice.
