I've noticed that my CMT symptoms get worse before my period. Sometimes

it is nothing more than realizing I am really really tired, sometimes

it more alarming like part of my arm becomming suddenly weak. Usually

the symptoms improve once my period starts. Any other women out there

notice this?

So far I don't have this problem, but I wanted to make ure you knew that you

were not the only woman with CMT and this period weakness. This subject was

brought up on the first and second CMT lists that I was a member of. This was

years ago and the lists are no longer around so you can't look up the archives

so I decided to be a human archive for you.

Hi ,

I've been away for a couple of days otherwise I would have responded a bit

quicker to this one. I've always had this problem, some months it's worse than

others. At best I would describe it as severe fatigue. At worst I feel I'm

coming down with a bug. I asked my neurologist about it (he's a young

enthusiastic guy - but he's a guy!)He hadn't heard of anything like that and he

couldn't find any research literature but then that doesn't mean much. He

suggested that it might be a result of water retention squashing the nerves or

words to that effect.

I posted on this a few months ago when I was really down and at my wits end

becasue I felt so bad. Gretchen suggested exercise, someone else suggested anti

depressants. I find that exercise does help with energy levels but the hydro

(aqua) sessions I've been taking lately have to be shorter as I don't have the

strength to do a whole half hour. Even that helps me feel a bit happier if

nothing else so it might be worth giving that a go if you don't already.

If anyone else has any other tips how to get through this phase let me know -

all suggestions gratefully received so long as they don't

include cod liver oil ~lol~

Regards

Fi

I have noticed also before my period and the first day that I feel weaker, a

little more clumsy and when I get in bed at night my whole body feels achey. I

have a girlfriend who had a spinal cord injury and she really feels a difference

around her period also.

We have also noticed that when we are sick, we feel it more than others do in

the aches and pains of the body
