, Evan now has some eye contact when he feels like it. I know that

there is a minium critera for dx'ing any disorder but it is a shame that it

sometimes takes years to get a proper dx. We had no problem getting Evan

dx'd with autism but it took a couple of years to get the proper dx for

's bipolar and about a year to get it for . I had to go to a

private pyschiatrist to get it and after paying her for about a year, county

mental health then changed their opinions on childhood bipolar. It did not

hurt that the private pdoc was also head medical doctor at mental health! If

I could have gotten past the clinician and pschologist to see her in

the first place I would not have had to go to her private office.

I am sure that they do not like to put the autism label on a child if they

can help it. After all, that entitles the child to more services and that

costs more money. And with the rise of autism and other disorders, money is

becoming a bigger issue. I just saw Evan's school nurse yesterday, while

picking Evan up from school, and he said that he is so far behind in his

work because they are getting so many new youngsters at the school everyday.

Evan's school is entirely special ed once more and besides it there are

satellite classes at every other school in the district.

I hope that you can find other help. Can you appeal?

CB likes his penis too LOL...we tell him quite bluntly in public to put your penis away, at home we tell him to go have "private " time in his room. ALL boys really like their little friend LOL...be direct and to the point. It works

,

You need to request an independent evaluation from an outside source other

than the school. Initially I went to a doctor with the Cars test and got a

diagnosis and then I went to Albuquerque to a diagnostic team from the

University there - a speech therapist and a doctor and recieved a

confirmation of the autism diagnosis as well as suggestions on what he

needed. My son also has eye contact but he has more than enough other

characteristics. An outside source will look at your child in a more

holistic manner. THere is a good site called yellow pages for kids with

disabilities and it should help you to find some outside source in your

particular area. The school by law should pay for this outside evaluation.

Be sure and request this in writing to the school. If you need help there

are local parent info centers in big cities and you can call them. Hang in

there.

sse had a dsm4 test and a psych appointmnent with the school

based on some floor play with the teacher he played and had eye

contact which she deemed to not be " typical behavior of an autistic

child " so they are not comfortable diagnosing him with autism

since then he has reverted to speaking in the 3rd person name

calling bathing 3 to 5 times a day wont do a thing he is asked

to do hits himself in the head when he gets frustrated and the

new thing is he is extremely fascinated with showing and playing with

his penis in public and at home

what in the h%^% am i suposed to do

thank you for listening
