I also get aggravated shaky hands from caffeine.

But for some reason I just can't resist the espresso after lunch! And

sometimes the latte in the morning.

Just one of those things, I go through detoxing bouts about once a year and cut

it out, then I do eventually add it back as I love it so much. But even my

dentist says it should go - as it stains teeth.

I try to drink green tea, but that too has caffeine (some reason though it does

not impact my hands too badly).

Donna,

I am 59 years old and drink maybe 36 oz. ( 3 twelve oz mugs) of coffee daily. I

have a tremor, but it is not affected by coffee unless I drink an unusually

large amount. My heart is mot affected in any unusual way. Like anything else,

moderation is the key.

I have cut down on coffee in the past and it didn't seem to matter much, but

if I drink more than that, I can get bit more tremor. No doubt there are

individual differences. All the research suggests that you can drink

significant amounts of coffee for many years with no known negative

consequences. The tremor is another matter, but my personal experience has

been as I have said--it doesn't affect me much. And, I really love a fresh

cup of steaming dark roast in the morning..

I don't think caffeine plays any different role in those with CMT versus the

general public. I can have three cups at night and sleep like a baby but my

friend that does not have CMT, can't drink coffee after noon. Caffeine

affects people differently.

Personally, coffee is my only " vice " and I can't imagine life without it.

As much as I'd like to blame CMT for everything, maybe my individual

sensitivity to caffiene has nothing to do with it? I can drink my one

cup in the morning, but if I have any more than that I won't sleep at

night. I also cannot have anything with chocolate in it, or I won't

sleep. I can't have any alchoholic beverages either (won't sleep)

Patty:

Good Morning! I have completely cut caffeine our of my diet. I had trouble

with my heart racing, jittery problems, etc. I feel so much better now! I

also cut out chocolate since it is a " sister " drug to caffeine. If you

happen to eat " Oreo " cookies--they are the worst...the chocolate is so

consintrated in them my doctor said I could eat a couple of candy bars and

they wouldn't do as much damage. It was really hard at first to not have

either caffeine or chocolate but now it is easy. I don't hardly ever drink

even " Caffeine Free " pop, mostly drink water and I feel a lot better.

Actually starting to loose some weight, which is wonderful. Since I have an

AFO on my left leg, exercise is very difficult, or long periods of walking.

Thanks,

Jane
