They can put a little pad on top part and the bottom part to absorb the noise.

Better yet, they should have cut back both parts so that clicking doesn't occur.

It sounds like they didn't. Most of the newer designs of AFOs with ankle joints

are made more like metal AFOs and have more of a two uprights design with the

heels cut out for ventilation and to prevent this anoying noise. You need to go

back to the orthotist and get him to fix this.

Hi Barbara,

I am not sure what the articulated AFOs are. But I have an AFO that is hinged at

the ankle. It is made out of plastic. It also clicks. I put a piece of velcro

kind of tape that is sticky on one side and I can stick it in the back of the

heel where the 2 pieces meet and click together. I hope that makes sense. I got

the stuff from my orthotist because I too don't like the clicking.

I wish no one knew I wore them and that sure doesn't help. I have to keep

replacing the tape because it flattens out from hitting together. My orthotis

gave me a pice of rubber but that didn't work as good. Ask your orthotist what

he thinks. I hope that helps. Tell your son he is not alone.

Thanks... this sounds like a good idea. I wasn't sure whether those

parts hitting each other are essential to the design or not... but

nothing to lose by asking.

Barbara,

My son also has the hinged DAFOs. His new pair came with a piece if rubber

between the hinge and seam quiet. He has the hinged form to prevent

hyperreflexing at the knee. Is that why yours are hinged?

Hi .

Thanks. My son's are hinged at the ankle so that he can do things like

stairs and hills... which he needs to do as a college sophomore....

There have been a few good suggestions here... It is great to have a

place to " go " where people " GET IT "
