Guest guest Posted June 12, 2005 Report Share Posted June 12, 2005 I've been puzzled a while now as to why many of kombucha groupies need to BUY a scoby. Having made my own yogurt and sour dough starter for years now, I kept wondering, " why the 25$ mushroom? " I got a bottle of GT Daves K, downed half and threw the other half into my (properly brewed and cooled) sweet tea, put it in a basket (a pretty balinese basket, but that's another story) lined it with a heating pad turned very low, hung a sterile aquarium thermometer in it, and VOILA! It started right away and now 4 gallons later, I am sure my K is the zingiest, peppiest, around, with a nice fat mushroom floating and smilin' back at me. Maybe it's a placebo effect, but I sure gain a 'sense of well-being' effect from the 3 or 4 glasses a day. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
