Joana,

I am 59 years old and started lifting weights around age 30. Before that, I had

tried every other form of exercise--running, walking, tennis, stationary

bicycle, and hated all of it except walking. Running is a hateful way to waste

one's life and I'm quite convinced that it may very well be a conspiracy cooked

up by athletic shoe manufactures. Tennis requires a partner, stationary cycling

and walking can get boring and my feet hurt too much. So, I lift weights with

weight machines and a few dumbbells, hunt small game which enables many

delightful hours outdoors, and occasionally swim for aerobics. If hunting gets

too painful, I take a pain pill and rest

in a quiet meadow, all the while thanking God for the privilege. Lifting

weights helps me do all these things.

This morning I spent 3-4 hours slowly wandering through a patch of

woods--watching deer, geese, squirrels, a barred owl, hawks, a large flock of

vultures, two flocks of turkeys, and dozens of other birds. I left the woods

when it started raining and my feet started complaining and my game bag was

filled--what a great day!

Tom
