Guest guest
Joana, Not being able to go up stairs without a railing when I was 21 was what made me start going to doctors to figure out what was wrong. I cannot go up one step without leaning on something. I can't even go up a curb without leaning on a car to get up. My quads in my legs are so weak that I cannot get up a stair and primarily use my arms as my legs. Jackie P.S. I am now
Guest guest
I am 71 now and have been going stairs using mainly my arms to pull me up - and like Jackie said, I too cannot step up even one stair (curb) without holding onto something and pushing or pulling myself with my arms. Also have trouble with inclines - must have a cane or rollerator to helpmyself walk up hills (and I live in a very hilly section of PA). Good thing we have strong arms (so far). Guest guest
Dear Jackie, Thank you for your email. Are you able to do some kind of exercise? Maybe a Hydrotherapy perhaps? Please, feel free to email me anytime! All the best wishes to you Jackie! Joana
Guest guest
Dear June, Yes, That is true...we have strong arms and we have to thank God after all for everything! My dear brother in Brazil had a brain surgery when he was just in his 20's and left him paralized on the right side...and he is an amazing brother, still working in his office fine, managing to walk with his cane and always laughing at life. I can not complain about CMT with him, he is head strong and always think that life could be much worse! Ps: We all have CMT, I and my 2 brothers in Brazil!!! Anyway, nice to hear from you June. Take Care Always! Joana
Guest guest
Like June, I hold on to the rails and pull myself up stairs, one step at a time, because my leg muscles are not strong enough to lift my body up the steps. Likewise, I have problems with inclines, especially going up them. I usually have to hold on to something or use a cane because my feet do not bend very far at the ankle and my leg muscles cannot lift my body upward. --Joe

Guest guest
I have all the same complaints. I am happy that my part of Southern CA is flat for the most part.
