When my son had his bloodwork done through them, it was a 24-28 day wait, but

then there was a " mistake " of some sorts and we had to do the whole process

again. It did end up taking almost a month after the mistake to get our results.

I too had my blood work from Athena and it took 6 weeks.

This time, National Institute of Health took my blood and sent their specimens

to I believe another lab other than Athena, but alas, no better. They took my

blood in July and I am still waiting. It appears that they have not even begun

looking at some of the specimens that NIH sent.

I will find out specifically what lab they are sending to and let you know.

Gretchen,

We were told after much complaining about their delays, they are working on

hiring more people to handle the increase workload. I didn't realize they were

the only lab performing these tests. We went through alot of anxiety waiting on

the results, I'm definitely with you on this.

  • 4 weeks later...

Gretchen; I am confused. My Fl. neurologist thought I had a type 2 and when

my DNA test turned up neg last Oct. I thought it was because they only had

tests for the type 1 family.

I really am pretty sure I'm a type 2 like you. I haven't seen a neurologist

here in Kansas yet. Maybe I should????????? My CMT history is almost identical

to yours.

Hi, I just heard from my geneticist today that Athena has now

estimated results of the blood tests for my son and I will not be in

until early November now. We have already waited 5 weeks. They keep

extending the time. At least now I know that a lot of other people are

having the same problem. I have a couple of other concerns though. I

just got a statement saying the bill will be over $9000 EACH. My

insurance company is supposed to cover it....but doesn't that sound

extraordinarily high??? I'm trying to look into it. I thought it was

supposed to be more like 6000. What is everyone else being charged?

Also, how accurate is the test? The geneticist made it sound like it

would be accurate, but now I hear from some of you that you could get

a false negative. Does anyone have any more info. on that? I mean, why

pay $9000 for that???

Thanks,

Lori
