When Matt had his other Hernia corrected 2 years ago, the doctor did mention that he would probably get another one on the other side. The cast that Erie put on was so tight, that I was wondering if that was causing the hernia to pop out. We see the pediatricican today. Matt has been having alot of problems with this first cast from Erie. We ended up having to take it off a few weeks early due to pressure sores. We found someone that finally took it off last Friday. The sore on his belly was about 1 " in diameter and pretty bad.. The poor boy was tollerating it, till last Friday when he just couldn't deal with it any longer. In fact, he never really started complaining about it till earlier that week.. They moved our cast date up at Erie from Jan. 8th Jan. 2nd. We won't be seeing Dr. Sands this time though. Will be seeing Dr. K?? Sue and > > > > __________________________________________________ >
Guest guest
Siobhan had a hernia repair (left side) and has another hernia on the right side, which we're in " wait and see " mode.... We were told that hernias went had in hand with connective tissue disorders (not all I guess). The casting just made them look more obvious, but didn't actually cause them. Siobhan's hernia repair was also day surgery and she seemed to have no pain from it either. (She did have some clotting issues, which was worrying, but unrelated to casting or connective tissues!). Sounds like we were told the same as you ! Hope Santi is doing well? Guest guest
Sue, wanted to jump in and say that Jake had a hernia repair a few months ago as well. Our doc told us that the cast and brace should not/did not cause the hernia and also that when a child gets a hernia on one side there is a 50% chance that he/she will get another on the opposite side. Food for thought. I would call the doc if you're concerned. (I call the pediatrician's office frequently enough that the nurses know the sound of my voice -- YIKES!) Good luck, & Jake > > Hello, Just wondering, about hernias caused from > casting? had > > one on his right side about 2 years ago, prior to all his braces > and > > casting.
