Stairs and CMT

Hi Gretchen and co...

Thanks again for the wonderful resource here...it is so inspiring and

helpful..you're not just an 'aunt emeritus' to the CMT kids, I think you are a

'best friend emeritus' to many people too..thank you.

I have a question for those out there that had CMT as a kid, or are kids now...

What did you do about stairs? Did you make sure you were in a house with no

stairs, or adapt? Use a stair lift?

Gavin has been falling on stairs alot in the past 2 weeks. We have double

handrails on the stairs so fortunately on the worst fall he caught himself, but

did cut the inside of his mouth with his teeth when his face hit the rail.

He's now wearing his AFOs more during the day and that is certainly

helping his stability , but we're wondering about safety. On the one hand, we

are keeping an eye open for bungalows in our area, on the other hand we wonder

about when one should get a lift.

It's not that he can't climb stairs, it's that its hard to convince a 5 year old

not to carry his favourite action figure as he goes up to his room. We were

also concerned about whether a little guy his age would be bothered by having to

use a lift..less freedom, than just moving point A to B.

Does anyone have experience with this?

...best of luck with the next surgery...

Heidi...that is great news about Seth....

Thanks

Sally
