Guest guest
, turned 10 in November and still believes. He even asked to go to the mall to see Santa. Of course he has questioned us many times. We simply say that Santa is magical and we pay the bill for the presents. Not sure if this is the right way or not but I don't have the heart to tell the whole truth. Gloria
Guest guest
, This is one of the reasons I had debated not telling Noelle about Santa. I remember the day that I found out that he was not real and I felt so heartbroken over it. But, through other kids she heard about Santa and now I don't have the heart to tell her any differently. Noelle (12-2-01) Ian (8-15-04) cats out of the bag Morning! I hope you all had a safe, and peaceful holiday. Olivia turned 9 on Christmas Eve!! Hard to believe how fast she is growing! She is a growing up to be a very gracious young lady. On Christmas night, her and my nephew D'Angelo cornered me about the reality of Santa Claus! Yikes! I had to tell them the truth......And, it certainly wasnt easy. Olivia wasnt very happy about this, and felt somewhat betrayed. I also felt bad for having kept up the betrayal, so long. She is over it now, I think....But, I was thinking this a.m., if I had it to do all over again, would I handle the Santa situation, a little differently...(?) Carmell, how did Braydon handle this? Shellie, does Mo know, yet? , how about Kylie? Anyone out there have any thoughts/experience relating to this? Please share... Sincerely, HRH
Guest guest
Thanks Gloria. I knew there would be parents out there that felt the same way. I didnt realize how difficult explaining the truth to Olivia was........Although, I am relieved that she knows the truth. I know that if I would have kept the Santa story for another year, it would take her atleast a week to forgive me. HRH > , > turned 10 in November and still believes. Guest guest
Hi , I thought that Shellie had a good idea. She explained to Mo and the story of St. , what a great man he was, how he helped the community, etc......Then went on to explain why St. Nicks traditions are carried out today.....That way the children learn that the Santa tradition started because of one persons kindness, and generosity..... Guest guest
I haven't hit that road yet with our three kiddos, but I often think about what I'll say when it comes up. I'm hoping for at least another 6-7 years before our daughter starts to question good ol Santa. /Cole heather@... wrote: Hi , I thought that Shellie had a good idea. Guest guest
Hi , Kylie still believes in Santa! How are you and Olivia doing? We're all good. Just getting ready for our regularly scheduled Halo! She gets it on January 8th. I'll give you a call this week. Take care, --- heather@... wrote: > Morning! > > I hope you all had a safe, and peaceful holiday. > Olivia turned 9 on Christmas Eve!! Hard to believe > how fast she is > growing! Guest guest
Hi ! She is such a sweetheart. I had a feeling she would still be a believer! We need to catch up, big time. Yesterday, I took Olivia and her cousins sledding, and ended up in the E.R., for the rest of the afternoon....So, I'll be on the couch all day. I was pulling the intertube up the hill, and fell. My patella slipped all the way to the back of my leg, and I sprained my ankle! Needless to say, I am on crutches, pain killers, and must wear knee and ankle stabililizer braces....Can you believe it!! I am feeling ~so~ old, lately.... Guest guest
Hey - this is probably a done deal by now. I didn't have email access for the last 10 days - talk about withdrawls! LOL We took a similar approach to the Santa issue that Gloria did (and sounds like Shellie too). When the kids were old enough to ask about Santa, and really old enough to understand a conversation, we talked about the fact that parents have to pay for the stuff Santa brings, etc. We also never came out and said yes or no if they asked if Santa was real. We talked about the magic of Christmas, the giving, the spirit of it all, etc. I'm still not completely convinced Braydon doesn't have some belief in Santa, even at age 11. My older kids talked about this during the holidays - they both couldn't remember when they found out the truth about Santa (neither even suggested or mentioned that they didn't believe in Santa, rather just realizing the truth). At our house, if you don't believe in the spirit of Santa and Christmas, Santa doesn't bring gifts. Even as old as my kids are now, the vast majority of the gifts show up under the tree on Christmas Eve from Santa. We don't have any gifts to our family under the tree before Christmas. Only gifts to family and friends to share. Every family is different. I hope the spirit of Christmas and the holidays stay with you and Olivia forever. BTW, I read about your sledding incident - yikes! I hope you are okay and won't need surgery to fix your patella. My Blake (age 16) had a patellar subluxation (fancy way to say what you did) and had surgery to fix it over Christmas break 2005. Gotta go catch up on the rest of the emails...
