Deep Tendon Reflexes

Don,

Upon my initial diagnosis, I had some deep tendon reflexes. (1962) In my teens

and 20's docs didn't get any reflexes out of me. But, about 2 years ago (2003),

my orthopedist actually got reflexes out of me - lol - surprized and puzzled us

both.

My question to him was " could my exercise program have caused this change in

finding reflexes? He just scratched his head and truthfully said " I don't know " .

This link mentions deep tendon reflexes can be normal in the early stages of

CMT. (Read through it awhile to get to the reflexes notation)

As for other symptoms, mine are minimal, but include pes cavus, high arches, a

propensity for toe-walking (when overly tired). Early in diagnosis I also walked

with the left foot rolling out to the left and the right foot rolling inside,

also to the left. Tendon surgery on both feet fixed this. I have never had drop

foot/feet, but have done my share of tripping and falling over stupid stuff like

thin air. lol My balance was horrible in high school and most of college. My

balance seemed to improve some when I started doing aerobics at age 30, and I

continue to try to improve my balance with some work in aquatics exercise. I

haven't been DNA tested: results of my last EMG/NCV were normal, suggesting an

axonal type of CMT. No family history of CMT either.
