Guest guest
As for nutritionists, the registered nutritionist is very different from a GP. I was wrong with the letters, they are ION certified and registered with the BANF. Here is the web link for ION for more details: http://www.ion.ac.uk/ You seem so interested maybe you could become one yourself - there are details online on how to study, etc! Anyway, I had to go to a nutritionist for advice, as I knew that most (not all) GPs would not give unconventional advice. I went to a great lady who was one of the original Food Doctor people - the Food Doctor is a fabulous practice in the UK that explains why certain foods and nutrients impact our bodies in certain ways. I have posted the ISBN of the method and book before in case you want to order from Amazon. Anyway, I went privately but I believe there are also NHS nutritionists around too. You just need to specifically ask your GP for a referral to a nutritionist, and to make sure that the person is ION educated. As for yoga, the ability to balance is something my teacher believes can be retrained with time. I have explained that genetics may block this " retraining " - I mean I was totally shocked when I took up yoga about 10 months ago that I could no longer raise myself on my tip toes. But slowly and surely, I can do a few extra seconds, I do the exercises holding onto the wall, and I stay positive. I have also found doing yoga tired is almost impossible, so I tell my teacher if I am too fatigued at the start of the class and she is more comforting with me. I love the stretching for my calves and hamstrings, and I too have no problem touching the floor but I find that without the core strength to go with it my back feels odd (so time to do more situps!). Anyway, I guess my message is that I just try to do what I can, and then laugh when I topple over from the " tree " position (balancing on one leg) and say " timber " when it happens! For Joana: Please email me separate from the list. Perhaps we can meet up. Also, as I am going to a wedding in North Carolina I have ordered the yoga toes Gretchen mentioned - maybe they will help with my yoga. If we can plan to meet up in September (I am gone pretty much from now until the end of August for a wedding, work, and a week holiday), I can share with you if they are good or not, and I am going again to the US in November and maybe can bring you some. It would also be great to meet someone else in London with CMT. Let me know if you want to meet up sometime.
