Guest guest
you will probably have to fax them a note requesting the dictation. If they took any x-rays ask how you get a copy of those as well. generally you will have to pay for them. if you can afford to do it, I would. This way if you need a second opinion, you can bring them with you. Then fax the doctor a list of follow-up questions and ask him or a nurse to call you back with the answers. I generally go to every appt. with a separate piece of paper that says: please send a copy of the dictation to us: with our address and signature. At home make a notebook with all dictations Hope that helps. best. mary What Now.... I went to the first consultation visit for my daughter Atiana today and they confused me really bad!I just barely got in from the visit! They said she has a curve but that his diagnosis on her is spinal asymmetry.Whatever that is!He wants to see us back in 3 months at a children rehabilitaion place. He doesnt think she has scoliosis but we will wait and see if it gets worse! He took 2 xrays and talked to us for about maybe 10 minutes at the most and than hurried up and walked out before I could ask him anything! What is it I do now!How could I get his notes and xrays sent to me!Can I even do that? He measured her curve but didnt say anything.I was putting her clothes back on while he was taking notes but right when I got done he said okay thank you see you in 3 months! Is there anyone that can call me to talk about what I should do now! Thank you for your time! Love, Olivia and Atiana
Guest guest
You have absolutely every right to call the office and ask for his nurse. Ask her to make you a copy of the doctors report and the xrays and go pick them up. I have asked for them to be sent in the past and it seems to work better if you go get them. I'm not sure of spinal asymmetry- but I do know that your little Atiana is at a crucial time in her development. I would think that I would go get a second opinion. I have a hard time remembering where everyone is, but I would try and make an appointment either at Salt Lake or Erie (or even Philadelphia and see Dr. D'). You have to remember that your gut feeling is what you need to go with, you are her Mom and you knwo what is best. If you think that waiting is not the best option (which in our case would have been detrimental) then I would schedule a second opinion. good luck. and Evan oliviagruiz2006 <oliviagruiz2006@...> wrote: I went to the first consultation visit for my daughter Atiana today and they confused me really bad!I just barely got in from the visit! Guest guest
we often travel long distances for appts. so sending or faxing dictations/x-rays is the *only* option. Most hospitals have a courier for x-rays. We always get them in a timely fashion. Some hospitals put them on disc now at no extra charge. i have not found this (being sent info) to be a problem with my method of requesting and a signature -- sometimes, however, you do have to call them if they haven't sent them in a timely manner. In some places a signature is required for parents to receive copies of dictations and x-rays although it is your right as a parent/patient to have copies of all medical records. We have a 5 inch notebook full of dictations for our 2.5 year old daughter and we have seen over 60 specialists... mary Re: What Now.... Guest guest
I have become rather infamous for scheduling a f/u appt for Madison. I don't take her with me though and I go armed with all of my questions and demand they be answered. There is a fine art to being successful at this. You MUST advocate for your child, no one else will. You are already moving in the right direction. Try to get a copy of the radiology report and the x-rays and over night them to Dr. D'Astous in SLC. Since you live in that hospital's region, your local shrine can help you with travel expenses. I know we keep missing each other; however, I will be driving to San tmw to take Madison for a f/u with her ortho. This means I have three hours of boring west Texas to talk and drive through if you want to give me a call. 325-450-4857 You're doing the right thing and taking the right steps. Guest guest
Hi Olivia. Love the name. I have been meaning to post to you for some time now. Where are you located? Guest guest
I always do the same thing that you do, but there have been times that we have requested info, signed releases, etc and then somehow it slipped through the cracks. I simply meant that if she could go to the office and get them, then that would save the worry and frustration of waiting. Good advice! Guest guest
agreed that going to the office is a best scenario -- sometimes being present and having them *hand* them to you is necessary. I was just giving another possible solution -- I have twins and any time i don't have to make another trip out I don't best. mary Re: What Now.... Guest guest
I googled Spinal asymmetry and basically came up with any curve that is less than 10 degrees is not considered scoliosis, but spinal asymmetry. http://www.spine-health.com/topics/cd/scoliosis/scoliosis03.html heather hyatt <heather@...> wrote: Hi Olivia. Guest guest
That would be great if that is what the doctor sees on the xray, but I would want numbers ASAP to prove it. Good luck Olivia. Guest guest
My husband was diagnosed with spinal asymmetry as well - he has a curve of about 8 degrees, so that makes sense with the " 10 and under " rule.
