Wow! That is awesome!!!! I am so happy for Jake. I, too, would be worried

about not weaning him off the brace. But, I know you will be diligent in

getting him x-rayed. If you see the slightest progression, I am sure he won't

have a problem putting him right back into a brace.

I am so happy to hear another successful casting story!

Jake update

We returned from Erie late last night after our 3 month follow-up/brace check

appointment for Jake. I'm happy and at same time terrified to report -- Jake's

back is straight. Both curves now measure 0 degrees and the RVAD is 9. (Jake was

out of brace for 1 week prior to x-ray due to hernia repair as you may recall.)

That's the good part. The part I'm scared about is -- Dr. sent Jake home with NO

brace. Stated he couldn't justify making a new brace for a spine with no

measurements. What about the step-down or weaning period? Dr. said " He'll be

fine. " We are to keep a watchful eye on his little spine now until our next

x-ray which will be in 4 months' time. Dr. recommended having it done in

pediatrician's office and sending a copy to him. If all is still well,

fantastic. If there is any regression at all, we will head back to Erie.

Scared silly,

& Jake

!! That's is SO wonderful! Such wonderful news! Sounds like

such a positive & encouraging response, I'm sure he'll be just fine

with the Dr. thinking so positive about it! What was he measuring

in this brace 3 mos. ago? And out of brace? Just curious! Just keep

a close watchful eye on it, I'm sure you intended too! Hopefully all

continues to go well, I'm sure it will! Congratulations again!!

He said the key was to make sure Jake has another supine x-ray so

comparison is consistent. Therefore, we cannot go back to Boston as

they insist on prone x-rays. Still, yes, I'm am scared.

Still praying,

THAT IS AWESOME!!! I am so happy for Jake and I am thrilled for you.

I can only imagine how you must be feeling............extremely happy, but I

can totally understand you being scared.

, forgive me I can't remember, how old was Jake when he got his 1st

cast? And what were his measurements. How many casts did he have before the

brace?

I get so excited when I hear all these amazing stories.

I am so anxious for to get his 2nd cast to see what the 1st one has done.

Although I do realize all children respond differently so I try not to get too

excited.

Again congrats on this new step forward.

Yippee to Jake. I wouldn't be scared. If his spine has held up and continues

to hold up perfectly straight, it should continue to grow stratight. Good luck

to your guys and congratulations.... Enjoy.

Dear Jen

Congratulations on a straight Jake. I know how scared you must feel, it is so

hard to see them without isn't it? You really are afraid that any movement will

undo all that hard work. What about if you take a photo of his back with him

standing straight with his arms out and then you can have a comparison to keep

looking back at during the next 4 months as he grows.

It will give you peace of mind and let you check any changes. We have tried

to do this with Bridget at the suggestion of her physio and it has helped me.

Good luck

Bridgette,

Thank you for the words of encouragement! I hope continues to do well.

If she was 13 degrees after the cast, what is she now?

congratulations, jake and family! jennifer, i know that it is a bit

of a worry, but really, you should be celebrating! it's time to

but " growth as a corrective force " by serial plaster casting seemed

to have worked in jake's case.

doing a happy dance for you guys!

  • 4 months later...

Hello to all. I've been inactive on the group as of late due to

holidays and everyday craziness, but I still think good thoughts and

pray for all our little ones everyday. After this message I'll go

back read through the almost 250 posts I've missed.

Jake had an x-ray taken last week to see where he's at after 4 months

out of the brace. We took the x-ray locally and sent a copy to Dr.

Khoury to examine. To my experienced but untrained eye his back

looked just as good as it did 4 months ago, but we waited anxiously

for Dr. K to give us a call with his thoughts. He was ecstatic! He

said Jake's back looked great, he hasn't regressed at all and he was

very excited with the results thus far. He mentioned something about

a study they are conducting but I was overwhelmed with our news and

didn't ask any questions on that front. As far as numbers go, Dr was

so enthusiastic over x-ray and I was so grateful that I didn't ask

for measurements. (In September 2006 his numbers were 0o and 2o).

Our next step -- continue to keep an eye on his spine and go for

another x-ray in 8 months.

We are so thankful to having found , ISOP, and this group. I

hate to think where we might be today without you all. Thank you all

so much.

Sincerely,

& Jake
