Guest guest
Last month we had an SST (student support team) conference with the school. Basically making them aware of Parks condition(OCD\BP)and his current meds. We gave them a profile so they could better understand him. Well, this past week I found out that the VP went to the county coordinator and got Park a 504 plan. I think this is wonderful! But is that normally how it works? I thought I would have to do the 'leg work' to get a plan in motion. We go in Wed. to review and sign the plan. His plan will be effective until he changes schools.(3 years)In our profile we asked for specific accomodations for Park if needed due to his O's and C's. Not only are those listed in the 504 but that he may be legally excused from any work assignment or teaching lesson we think will trigger worries. Other than that we havent been doing too well. His worst obsession is fire-we have a reocurring dream that 2 of his friends backpacks catch on fire-one friend gets burned and thats when Park wakes up screaming and wont go back to sleep. This causes the next day in school to be horrible! He is convinced his dream will come true, and to top that off they have been having kids pull the fire alarms at school! As far as BP goes- rages and depression galore! Wow I cant wait to get him back to the doc on Wed! Well thanks for listening and for letting me vent a little! I will update again after the pdoc appt. Guest guest
Hi Lana: Thanks for the update on Park. I am glad to hear that the school has been helping so much with his 504 accommodations. YOu probably won't want it to stay as is for three years. As his OCD improves, he will need less accommodations to avoid OCD triggers, and more accommodations re: teachers coping with helping him to boss back OCD. His OCD regarding hyperresponsibility with fires and his friends sound particularly cruel and tortuous. I hope his CBT therapist can help design some exposures to help him cope when his OCD is triggered at school. Good luck at the next p-doc appointment, take care, aloha, Kathy (h) kathyh@...
