Yes, I haven't forgotten the email you sent me back. I totally get what you are saying. I'm in such a rut that it's really difficult to change the eating and working out, especially going up that high in calories. That's a lot more than what I'm use to. The thing is... I use to take in that much and more and exercised then too.. it didn't make a difference so that is why I cut back on the calories. I've tried everything imaginable and nothing has worked. I use to only workout 45 minutes a day, when I increased that, it didn't matter, my body was the same.

I appreciate you taking the time to help me out with this. I think maybe I'm a little too anal about all of it, to be honest.

Remember, not seeing positive changes can be a sign of overtraining too. I think you need a rest week. In the certification courses, they say to cycle your workouts 3 months workout, 1 to 2 weeks off, then 3 months to workout again, then 1 to 2 weeks off, repeat indefinitely. You've been going for how long now without a week off? While I know you have been working very hard and have been super diligent with your eating, I also know that the body becomes accustomed to anything, even the great programs you've been doing. Give it some time to get use to nothing again, and then you will see faster improvements from the workouts. And slowly add in more calories, like an extra 50 to 100 a day until you are where you need to be to fuel those workouts without your body thinking it is starving. I know it sounds silly, but in the 10 years I've been doing this, I've seen those rests and increased calories really help a lot of people.

I have never taken a week off. I totally get everything you're saying, but to be honest, working out is my life and I just can't see myself taking off a week. I would go into total depression, I'm sure others can relate to me on this one. I will do my best to lighten up and take 2 days off a week, but that's just about it for me. I can see what you are saying though, and it does make a lot of sense.

Yes, absolutely! I just can't give up my workouts for any longer than a couple of days. I remember when my sister passed away, I took a couple days off and when I did try to workout my HR was so high and I just felt so stressed, but yet I know it was something I needed to do for me, you know? I took it light for a few days due to my HR staying so high, but even though it was light, I think it helped me a lot.

Hi ,

I understand how much you enjoy your workouts - I only

take a week or two off if I go away on vacation.

However, I do take active recovery weeks often where

I'll just do yoga or stretching, would you consider

doing something like that - where you can still have

your workout time, but have it be more restorative?

I can relate b/c my exercise time is my " Me " time - I

guess another option you would have would be to fill

up your exercise time with something else you enjoy so

you still get your " me " time - sometimes I'll do that

- I'll get up at the same time as my workout time, but

I'll read a book or do something else to relax.

Right now, my " me " time is a little messed up due to

the time change DD is getting up about an hour earlier

- I can't get up much earlier to do my workouts, 4:30

is about my limit. I " m hoping that she transitions

soon - she wants to go to bed at 6 but then she is up

at 5:30 right in the middle of my workout time. I got

home late from work last night and DH had let her fall

asleep at about 6 - I'm home today so she is staying

up until at least 7~

Take care,

Donna

Your heart rate was probably high due to stress, not missing the workouts. Definitely keep it light if you absolutely have to work out during a recouperation week.

Oh I totally agree with you Darcy!! I took the entire weekend off this last week, but I was looking forward to working out come Monday. I think I will take the weekends off for a while and see how that goes. I don't mind taking 2 days off a week.

,It takes 2 weeks of no cardio before your body starts reversing it's cardiovascular condition...hmm... did that make sense? I don't know how to word it...LOL..You could take time off and it would surely not " harm " you in any way, but do you good. However with that said I know the " place " ' you are in and it's fusterating. I'm an all or nothing type of girl too and I've had my " addiction " w/ exercise. Missing workouts is harder than getting up at 3:00 in the morning to get them done. It's very hard... When I began exercising I went almost 2 years w/out EVER missing a day. That was from the very first day I started until like 2 years (might have been one year 9 months) before I missed a day..

Now, I am finally comfortable and okay w/ missing days... But I've come a long way. I think you need to try to force yourself to accept days of not working out. It will be GOOD for you, really...Hugs ...

I've read it's good to keep your body guessing so that it never gets used to one thing, the same exercise, same amount of food etc. Your advice to add in the calories slowly is a good suggestion.

Hey , I think you are my OPPOSITE! You workout too much and I don't work out enough LOL How about a pact? Will you take 3 days off in a row (you pick the days,) and I will exercise at least 3 days next week. Want to try it? Jenfitgrl222@... wrote: In a message dated 10/30/2006 10:35:58 P.M. Oh, Jen.... I wish I could do that, but two days is my max. I wish I could make myself do it, but if I committed to you and told you I wouldn't workout for 3 days, I'm afraid I would do it anyway and then I'd feel bad because I told you I'd do it. Working out just makes me feel better in every way. I've only took time off for sickness and when my sister passed away, but I did use to only workout Mon-Fri. I did that for years..well, I started it back when I was exercising with Austin, that's what she always use to say she does. I took 2 days in a row off last week, but I didn't this week because I got my new Cathe workouts lol I really have thought of going back to taking the weekends off.

I am here to help encourage you in any way I can, but to be honest, I think you have been doing great. I think we are all different and we want different things from our bodies. I think I ask a little too much from myself and I need to just accept me for me, you know? There is so much more to working out then for just to loose weight and I need to remember that.

Cory Evenson insists on including down time, she includes it in her schedule. Would you be able to handle a week of lower intensity, Sansone 2 mile walk tapes with only 2 or 3 pound hand weights max, and as previously mentioned pilates or yoga (relaxing not hard core :))

My idea for the pact wasn't just for you, it was

for me too.

Yeah I could probably play volleyball all day or

at least I could probably play longer than anyone on

this board but that's because I am used to doing it

and I don't get any benefit exercise-wise from it any

more. If I played doubles (2 against 2) then yes I

would get a good workout but I usually play 6 vs 6 or

5 vs 5 so that's not much of a workout for me any

more. So I need to do more cardio (volleyball is

really anerobic because it isn't continuous movement)

so I thought we could maybe help each other. I guess

I can ask someone else to join me...but I just thought

we could help each other...you know what I mean?

I think that you should go back to working out

just 5 days a week then on the other two days you

could do stretching or a gentle yoga practice. I'm

afriad that you are really over-training your body.

BUT if you don't want to make a pact with me to

do that then I can't force you.

Disappointed,

Jen

hun, this is kind of a guilt trip for michelle, dont you think? i

know that you mean well, but we cant use guilt as motivation.

having said that though, *I* would be happy to do a challenge with

you jen !

i always need a kick in the pants to keep going.

i always seem to start out a week really well and then peter out at

the end.

or if i make it through a whole week (which i certainly can do),

then i peter out at the end of the 2nd or 3rd week in a month. it

is getting to be frustrating for me, because i have goals but never

seem to reach them!

anyway, i can certainly commit to your 3 days but because i dont

have such a busy lifestyle as you, nor do i do sports like you, i

need to do more workouts at home during a week. ideally i would

like to do 7 (with the 7th being yoga/pilates/stretching for

recovery), but i would settle for a minimum of 5.

Carolyn, it wasn't meant as a "guilt trip" for . I'm just a competitive person and I would like to have someone challenge me but I guess I should ask someone who doesn't exercise very much to a challenge instead of people here that exercise for 2 hrs 5 or 6 days a week. I need to work on getting and staying consistent with exercising. Did mean to offend anyone,
