What kind of doctor?

Hello again. I am being referred to a neurologist for tests and

evaluation for probable CMT diagnosis. After reading through some of

the posts here, I am wondering if a neurologist is the right specialty

or would it be better for an orthopedic doctor to evaluate. Since my

husband is retired air force we have Tricare for healthcare insurance.

My father had the same 'ugly' feet which we thought was just one of

those things, like brown eyes or blue eyes kind of trait. Now after

doing some research, I feel that it is CMT we have inherited. I talked

with my older brother today (he is 56, I am 51) and he has similar

foot appearances. He has already lost 2 toes to diabetic ulcers (big

red flag there!) and thus far has not experienced walking issues. He

is a full time truck driver and is able to climb in and out of his rig

with no problem.

I know our father had difficulty walking in later years but did not

have a brace and he used a walker for a few years before his death. He

also lost toes to diabetic ulcers. I don't know if any of his siblings

(there were 12) had similar problems but I do remember one aunt had

hammer toes.

This has been an interesting journey as I do the detective work to

find some answers to my own situation. Althoug I do not have a

definitive diagnosis, I do feel some relief that there is a name to

what is going on with me and that I really am not a hypochondriac or

just plain crazy.

Thanks for listening and please excuse my lengthy note. It's kind of

like thinking out loud!

Amy
