Guest guest
Hi Amy, By all means, go to the neurologist for diagnostic tests of CMT. Some of us seem both neuros and orthos in a team approach with physical therapists, or others, then some of us only see one doctor, or others. I was diagnosed so long ago by an orthopedist - I don't even remember hearing the word " neurologist " until I was 15. Now my Internist handles all I need - which is just a prescription/and to " check in " (lol) and my former Internist recommended the orthotics, so I see the orthotist once a year for a " tune up " . ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
I go to a neuroligist, internist, urologist, orthopedist, psychologist, physical therapist and a pain clinic in our local, oil rich people , subsidized hospital. The pain clinic only interviews people who have two specialist referrals and the only accepts 30-50% of those people. No backpains or migraines etc. Run by knock out Drs. Anyway they only treat chronic 'till dead pain and make sure that all your Drs are not subscribing chem mixes that do not mix. GO TO THE DRS. THEY MAKE LIFE EASIER. I STILL FALL ALOT AND ALL THE SYMPTOMS WE ALL HAVE ARE STILL HERE BUT I FELL BETTER (200%) AND CAN SLEEP. GOOD LUCK. Mike in Texas Please visit our current poll and give us your feedback on using Vitamins and Supplements for CMT.
Guest guest
Thanks, Gretchen. I just wanted to make sure I was on the right track. My AFO was prescribed by the first podiatrist and my orthodics were ordered by a general surgeon but no one looked into what the true cause of this was. The general surgeon was also familiar with my father's feet and he just felt it was the ugly feet syndrome! LOL! I just printed off the 'interactions' message a few posts back and I'll read that. I applaud the helpfullness and sincerity of this group. Amy
Guest guest
I went to a podiatrist also and all he did was tape my feet up and I was back there in two days time. Went through the corrective foot wear etc. No help. I'm really disgusted that he never looked any further than that. At the time I had insurance and he just did the minimum(sp) and looked no further. Just have to be your own advocate I guess! Sometimes the Dr's don't listen to you. Mine just made a face after I've complained to him every time I saw him. I finally insisted that I find out what was wrong. Now I know!! Carol
Guest guest
My neurologist prescribed the AFOs for me, and sent me to an orthotist for the proper fitting. He did a fantastic job, and I've been wearing the same pair for over 3 years now. You should start with a neurologist, because he/she is the one that can conduct the preliminary tests such as an EMG, that will help make a diagnosis. He can then make recommendations for assistive devices, etc. K.
Guest guest
The temperatures have risen in the past week to levels at which mold will be more active. It is also April which means local landscapers will pour on the herbicides and fertilizers; building maintanence folks may be doing spring cleaning with all kinds of garbage etc. Most of these things are neurotoxic and with all the recent east coast rains, more infiltration of your lower levels may have happened. There is no specific type of doc as each one individually has their own beliefs and practices. Since treatment of mold as anything other than a classic allergy isn't recognized by the AMA, they can't put such treatments on their insurance forms or risk being audited and de-licensed. This is not to say there aren't quacks around treating mold ailmnents but the good ones aren't likely to take insurance either. Look up docs near you from the AAEM (American Academy of Environmental Medicine), and see what you can afford. However, because you have a seizure disorder, you may want to consider checking with Mt. Sinai's environmental medicine center. They are traditional but may be able to recognize the connection between your multiple problems and work on the med problems on your insurance. Don't expect too much but at least they recogized 9/11 sequelae... Guest guest
Get the book Mold Warriors by Dr. Shoemaker, a good place to start. If the Allergist is also an enviromentalist and immunologist then they may know more about toxic mold than just a regular allergist. The allergist I was sent to doesn't believe in toxic mold making people sick, however he did test me for mold allergies. I don't live in your area so I'm not sure about any good doctors that would be close by but Dr. Shoemaker is in land. > > what kind of doctor takes care of people exposed to toxic mold? i > read about environmental doctors but who are they and why arent they > listed in my medical coverage? > > will an allergist do? my infectious disease doctor isnt doing a > thing and i think more should be done then just taking allerga. i > fell like my chest is caving in at times. i am still in my home > waiting to find a new place to live, i have been here for two years > whats another few weeks. i stay mostly in my room with the air > purifier except to go on the computer or go out. > > i have little apitite and just feel awful. dont know why this has > happened all of a sudden but it has. my seizures have increased and > my neuro has increased my meds (this was before we knew about the > mold) wonder if that has anything to do with it. and my brain fog. > man i am a goof ball. i am used to all those symptoms due to lyme but > these are three times normal. but its this awful feeling in my > chest. any advice on doctors? > > remember i live in outer mongolia beter known as staten island. > > thanks guys. >

Guest guest
LLaci In the slim chance you might live near me, may I ask where this doctor is and what he was able to do for you? Please feel free to post me privately, if you care to respond. Thanks, Sam llaci2003 <jjaksic@...> wrote: I happen to find an ENT doctor who helped me. --------------------------------- You rock. Guest guest
Roseanne, It would be important if you can somehow to get out of your present place at least for a short while to see if these other health problems might be relieved. I know it may cost you, but if you could it might be the best medicine. nne <roe0325@...> wrote: i went to the mold help site yesterday and did find lots of doctors in the city and in brooklyn. but they dont take insurance and i dont have any real extra money. i have lots of other health problems --------------------------------- You rock. Guest guest
Call and ask to interview the doc by phone or ask to email your questions so the doc can decide if he thinks he is a suitable professional for your needs. Why go and pay to find that out? If they refuse to answer basic (not exhaustive) questions about theirexperience with people like you, then you can skip them entirely. Remember you are hiring them, so you can also interview them or fire them. Barb Rubin ======================== > > i went to the mold help site yesterday and did find lots of doctors in the city and in brooklyn. but they dont take insurance and i dont have any real extra money. i have lots of other health problems i am already dealing with so co-pays and medication keeps me broke. I looked on line and found lots of allergist/imunolloigst who are in my plan but like you said they may not " believe " in toxic mold.. what is up with me? i have all kinds of stuff doctors dont beleive
Guest guest
to Sam, He practices in South Carolina. He did nothing more than take all the feedback from my x-rays of my sinuses and my ER visits; look at how much I was suffering and he put me on Diflucan. No other doctor would dare to try it.
