Medicinal Marijuana

I used to work in research in neurosurgery with chronic pain patients.

Nearly every one of them had tried or was using marijuana to control their

pain at some point. They all claimed it worked well. Getting it was

difficult and nearly always illegal which stopped most from using it as much

as they would have liked. It's sad that we are not allowed to research this

kind of pain control.

You are right, but it is also used for pain....A friend of mine used it when

she was being treated for cancer...said it was good for both pain and

nausea. Research continues to support this use.

I've always heard that marijuana is used to stop the nausea, not the

pain. In Glaucoma it's used to make the eyes water to compensate for

the dryness caused by the disease. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Somehow, I missed where this conversation began. but I do think that this is one

of the big reasons I have been in remission for as long as I have. Even when I

have flares, they usually don't last more than a couple days, and my skin barely

shows any signs of P, just on my scalp a

bit. When following all my diet and everything else natural ways... I have no

problems at all.

okay, so the current bout of depression has floored me, but the question with

this disease is so much chicken or the egg... which came first, the depression

or the aches or the bad diet... what causes what?

On the whole, if you think about the fact that Marijuana suppresses the immune

system in some studies, then you can see the connection. (not to mention the

anti inflammatory, sleep aid and anti stress effects) I just wish it was

available in a standardized tincture from of some

sort... so as to avoid the carcinogens and unreliability of dosage.

But I am a firm believer that anything is better than synthetic meds and

engineered enzymes and god-knows-what-else they put in that syringe! So far it

has worked, and though i am roughing through a bump or tow right now... I am

still not broken out or red and swollen, and I have no

deformities...

you be the judge

I'm with you. Ain't overly proud of it, but it helps me through. When you're on

the strong meds like we all seem to be, especially the MTX,

we can't even enjoy an occassional beer or glass of wine due to the

risk of liver damage. Randy

I was in Amsterdam recently and went to what I thought was a bar, SURPRISE,

silly me all they sold was pot and hash. I was so tempted to try this but

they do random drug testing where I work and with my luck I'd be called in

upon my return. It sure would have been wonderful if it worked even if for

only a night.

LOL...and doesn't it stay in your system like six months or so? My concern

would also be if I had to change jobs...I have had to turn down offers for

people I wanted to hire because they tested positive for it:(

I'm not sure how long it actually stays in the system but there is a test

they do now by testing hair and that shows back for quite some time much

longer than six months.

I didn't smoke an, it's not worth losing my job over.

I have a friend with Fibro and she does use occasionally. She has tried to

get me to try it, but since it is illegal I have a hard time wrestling with

my conscience. See, I have a 15 year old son and I have always taught him

that there is NO excuse for doing drugs. So....I just can't justify it for

me. Now, if they make it legal for medical purposes I would probably be the

first in line.....

BTW.....please, I hope no one thinks I am judging ANYONE here....each person

has a right to do what is best for them....

Carol,

I have resorted to it when I was in EXTREME pain. It

does take the edge off...also eases a very severe Lyme

headache. I figured...I have been given sooo many

narcotics that make me sick it was worth a shot! I

have listened to Montel speak about his MS

pain and that marijuana is the only thing that helps

him.

As an Oregonian where the issue of med marijuana is always on the ballot in

one form or another, I have read both sides of this and talked to doctors.

In our state, the people pushing for medical m. are their own worst enemies

because they aren't generally people who need pain control, etc.....they're

druggies who want to make M. more accessible. They DO, however, find " sick "

people (or actors who say they're sick) to do the ads. Anyway, the chemical

in M that reduces pain and even tremors in some illnesses is also available

in pharmacy drug(s)---the names of which I can't look up right now but some

are pretty common pain relievers. The problem with getting the value from

marijuana is that you have to take the hundred of BAD chemicals along with

the " good. " Mar. smoke is more harmful than cigarette smoke. And, for

those which chemical sensitivities, I think chances are high that there's

even more risk.

I remember one post long ago stating that the writer had very good results

controlling Lyme pain and nausea with small amounts of medicinal marijuana.

Has anyone else tried this and if so, did it help?

Look in our Files section for the folder titled " Cannabis for Neuro

Disorders " for some information. I never used it for medicinal

purposes, nor will I. My only experience with it is recreational and it

just got me in big trouble, physically/CMT speaking.

Can you elaborate on the physical effects it had on you relative to CMT? If not

I understand. I am familiar with most of the information in the Cannabis

section.
