Guest guest
Having not posted for ages, re-accessing the board was a colossal hassle with But I appear to have made it. If I show as a new member, no welcoming required! My son (14) had made some improvements with the drug intervention (SSRI + Clonazepam + Risperdal). Although we were concerned about the amount of drugs and the long term effect, we thought we were better off than living in the chaos of a severe OCD environment. Our son has been to a couple of psychologists and has received and used some cognitive tools. However he was not motivated (perhaps scared to death!) to do the ERP that is really needed, so has not continued in a well mapped program. We have now slipped back somewhat where the observable rituals (mainly with thresholds) are back and problematic (time). The mental axiety is back to a 6/10 (was a 9/10, then reduced to 3/10). We don't think the drugs are doing any good and are in fact worried that they may be doing more harm (?) than good. Our son has asked to re-enter psychological ERP. The questions: Has anyone weaned their child (with moderate to severe OCD)completely off the drugs? Did they return to the original hell? Were there positive results? Is this a bad idea? (of course we are afraid to go back to the original 9/10 anxiety). Can an SSRI lose its efficacy altogether? Can its effect change from being helpful to not only losing its effect but causing an increase in symptoms? It would be great to learn if someone has been down this road...thanks for your reply!
