Pain on outside of foot

Ken,

I started my journey into learning about CMT with a similar foot pain. I enjoy

walking, including long distances for charity (am training for a 60k for Breast

Cancer right now) and the pain was getting worse the longer my walks were. I

went to my doctor, who said this was related to the peroneal tendon (which I

think I spelled wrong) - upon further investigation (I went to an orthopaedist

who recommended EMGs etc) they said the lump was caused by an overexerted tendon

and water/swelling on the tendon (I had an MRI to show this was the case). I

then went to an orthotist (a specialised and

qualified podiatrist) who made special inserts for my shoes (I also got a

" prescription " for good trainers for walking in - ASICS 1080s which have a lot

of heel stabilisation). Anyway, to make a long story short (it has gone on too

long already!) the shoe inserts work a treat and stop my foot rolling, which has

reduced my pain so that it is not there at all really any more! I only wear the

inserts with certain shoes (they are big) and when I have worn my work shoes for

too long, some days I wear my trainers to work (nice Pumas with the inserts in,

or leather Campers) as my feet start to hurt otherwise.

Hope that helps,

Donna from London

Donna:

Thank you. Every bit of information and shared experience helps.

Since the podiatrist I will be seeing at Kaiser (eventually) may not

be familiar with CMT, I have learned to come to appointments

prepared with my own information. You mentioned that your doctor

was able to help your symptoms, but I am curious as to whether you

still have a knot or tender spot on that part of your foot.
