Guest guest
Tasha- Sounds like it might be too tight. I think you should call as your physician will always know what is best. It's possible they can just flair it for you to make him more comfortable for the next few weeks. I will be headed up your way tmw afternoon if you have time to get together. 817-847-5562 Tasha Fontenot <ryanswalk@...> wrote: Hi everyone. I hope you all are doing well. Guest guest
Tasha, Ian is red in the hips too right now. That's pretty common..as long as you aren't seeing sores, you are probably all right. I always have them trim under the armpits really well...my guess is that the cast is rubbing and irritating him. Maybe try putting more moleskin there? Noelle (12-2-01) Ian (8-15-04) Cast too tight? Hi everyone. I hope you all are doing well. Guest guest
Hi everyone.........its me again wondering about 's cast being too tight. We can see the doctor next Tuesday or Wednesday, but my question is..........what is the normal time in a cast. Or does it just depend on the child and maybe growing??? 's past 2 were on for 10 weeks. Does that time decrease when they get older? If we get it off next week he will have been in this one for 8 weeks and a few days. I just don't want him to be miserable. He keeps pulling at the bottom of it at his hips. Thanks for any thoughts. Tasha Claflin <noellesmommy@...> wrote: Tasha, Ian is red in the hips too right now. Guest guest
HI Tasha, Bridget's casts were always on for 3 months but she started when she was 3 and half so their rate of growth is slower than under 2s. Can you flair out his cast a bit at the hips with some pliers. We did that with a cast of Bridgets and she didn't mention the part that had been digging into her again. Is there any way you can get a wet wipe in there in case maybe its a piece if dirt or grit annoying him. We used to pass a wipe through the holes and out the bottom and blow into the cast with a hair dryer on cool. Good luck Bert Tasha Fontenot <ryanswalk@...> wrote: Hi everyone.........its me again wondering about 's cast being too tight. Guest guest
Evan's cast has been tight EVERY single time. When I know its too tight, his skin gets really red-almost maroon and then almost looks transparent in places (forming a blister). He gets a little fussy too- My rule is usually to put on come of the antibiotic ointment his ped gave us and some DuoDerm which kind of acts like a barrier for his skin. He just learned to walk in the last cast and his skin took a beating! I also make sure that I can get a finger in around the cast- sometimes it gets really tight in his belly area and that scares me. Evan stays in his cast somewhere between 6-7 weeks and never makes it the full 8. I wish he could to attain maximum correction. Good luck, believe me, I know it's hard. We just went through this last week and went in almost 3 weeks early on Tuesday. Guest guest
We've been going every 8 weeks for every cast. This one has gone longer (I think it will be 11 or 12 weeks) simply because we had to reschedule the date we were initially given because we were going to be out of town. I think the SLC kids go longer in their casts though. Noelle (12-2-01) Ian (8-15-04) Cast too tight? Hi everyone. I hope you all are doing well. Guest guest
Madison had her first one on for 6 weeks and her 5th one for 16 weeks. Ms. Mehta says she likes to see 12 weeks. The longer the cast is on, the more correction and harnessed growth that is attained. You will be surprised how much just flaring it will help. That always made it possible for Madison to go at least 2-3 more weeks comfortably. When would you like to get together? Guest guest
Thank you all for your advice about 's cast being too tight. I want to try to wait until his next cast(Dec 11)so we will try to flair it and add moleskin where needed. I think he should be in this one as long as possible. Waiting for his original date will give him 2 more weeks and a few days. I truly appreciate your help..........he has never been bothered by his cast until now. It was comforting to have someone to talk to and ask my questions. Thanks sisters -I think we are going to have to make plans in advance to get together. Our 1st group of family left last night and the 2nd group will be here this afternoon-staying through Sunday. I have lots to do to prepare. We will be here all day(Friday). If you guys are close(N Beach or 377)feel free to call and drop by. 817-929-1410 What are your plans for Christmas holidays? Will you be here the weekend before? Or up this way before then? Let me know and we can plan something. Enjoy your stay with family and I look forward to getting together some day. Guest guest
Adria, I will tell you that I was SOOOO worried about Ian being uncomfortable in his cast, but it really isn't bad at all. I was afraid that he'd stop sleeping through the night, but if anything, he slept even better. Ian got his first cast at 15 months. The things that took him some time to adjust to were sitting up in shopping carts & high chairs (the wooden ones at restaurants), sitting flat on the floor, and trying to stand up after he'd been sitting on the floor. He never had trouble walking. With the high chairs and shopping carts, I always brought either a small pillow or wadded up some blankets for support behind his back. It really only took about two weeks before he figured out how to do those things on his own and we didn't need to put anything behind him. The only thing that seemed to take him a long time to figure out was how to sit on the floor...he adapted by kneeling all the time. It did take 2 or 3 casts before he figured out how to do that. But, I know other kids here who didn't have any problems with that at all. I know the first cast is scary, but it's really not that bad at all. Most people can't even tell that Ian has one on unless they try to pick him up and hold him. Noelle (12-2-01) Ian (8-15-04) Re: Cast too tight? > > Hi everyone.
