Rotator Cuff Training

Does anyone here do any special training for the rotator cuff

muscles? If so, do you use L-flyes? Would regular exercises such as

deadlifts or incline shrugs serve just as well? I believe I have even

seen bent DB laterals recommended. Thanks.

I would recommend face pulls. The L fyes are are

for rehab purposes because there's not enough tension

to develop strength. The lying one-arm lateral raise

is a much better alternative as well.

You can try Cuban rotations or external

rotations with the upper arm horizontal to the ground

and the elbow pointing forward. You can also do the

latter exercise while sitting on a bench with your

working arm on the leg of the same side. The leg is

bent at approximately 90 degrees with the foot on the

bench.

[by the way, all of these isolated actions form part of some

basic PNF upper body patterns that are very similar to

cable crossovers and reverse cable crossovers (see Figs 7.3-7.5

of " Supertraining " Mel Siff]
