Hi ! I am not too sure about the moleskin and petaling issues, maybe it

would be best to refer those to your physician. As for decorating the cast

though, I always did and we didn't seem to suffer any consequences because iof

it. Does Asher's cast have a tummy hole, back hole, and then air able to get in

around his arms, neck, and ocassionaly the diaper area? I would think this

would be plenty of circulation for him. I am not sure if this helps you very

much or not. You can check out the ISOP web site for directions on how to

decorate the cast. Best wishes to you and your family and especially Asher as

he recovers from his surgery.

My son, Asher, is 23 months old and had spinal fusion surgery on

Tuesday for his congenital

scoliosis (hemivertebra at L1 removed with pedical screws/fusion). They have him

in a Risser

cast for the next 6-12 weeks. We were in the hospial all last week, but were in

the cardiac

unit instead of the ortho rehab- and really missed out on all the cast care

pointers from the

nurses.

The " petaling " is a mess of 5 or more different tapes- some of which are peeling

off already.

Asher is suppose to be under " latex precautions " , but some of the tape has

latex, and it has

moleskin that I recently learned has latex too. So I did a little research

on-line and have

" Hytape " (latex-free waterproof sport tape) and some latex free moleskin in the

mail. I'm

going to attempt to just start over with the pedaling. Any comments or

recomendations

here?

I also have a question about decorating and modpodge posts I've seen here- is

that

advisable? I'd love to decorate it- even if just a solid blue color or

something- and it seems

that the mod podge would really make it easy to keep clean- but would it hurt

the cast from

" breathing " ?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

Hi

Welcome from us too!

I was also going to add the Infantile Scoliosis website has tips on

cast care and diapering under the " Information Section " .

www.infantilescoliosis.org

I hope that Asher continues to make a full and speedy recovery.
