Are you looking for kids who have not yet been casted? We might be able to go

to Philly, but Ian is already in his 6th cast. He's due for his next one up in

Erie on the 26th of this month.

URGENT - Call for Qualified Patients to be

Examined and Cast by Dr. Mehta

Hello, CAST Parents!

My name is Holly LeMaster, and I'm a member of the ISOP Advisory

Board. I'm writing to you on 's behalf - Olivia had her first

VEPTR-hybrid expansion at Shriner's in Salt Lake City this morning,

and she's recovering nicely. , of course, is at her side and

I'm standing in here for her today.

We just got word early this morning that Dr. Mehta will be doing an

Early Treatment Trial Project at the Philadelphia Shriners hospital

on September 20 - 21. We've been trying to make this happen for

several weeks, and didn't want to announce it until we were

absolutely sure it would go forward. We know this is short notice,

and we certainly apologize for that.

We still have room on the schedule for several children to be

examined and cast by Dr. Mehta. We need the very best candidates for

early treatment in this program and would like to treat children who:

. Are younger than 4 years

. Have recently been diagnosed with progressive infantile

scoliosis

. Have had an MRI to rule out congenital scoliosis

If your child meets these criteria and you can be in Philadelphia on

the 20th (examinations) and 21st (casting) of this month, please

send me a personal email at Holly@... . Space and time are

limited since this will be a 2-day ETTP. Please know it is possible

that we may have more applicants than space. If that occurs, Dr.

Mehta will make the final determination about which patients are

most likely to benefit from participating.

There is paperwork that will have to be filled in and returned

quickly, and of course you'll have travel arrangements to make.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you'd like your child to

be considered for this program.

Thank you!

Hi Holly:

My name is and I am the mother of who was diagnosed with

scoliosis at 12 months. She was at 20 degrees then and held at 20 until she was

2 1/2, when she went to 35 and our Milwaukee doctor casted her. An MRI was done

and was negative. Our doctor's casting is a bit different from Dr. Mehta's, but

nonetheless she was back down to 20 degrees after 4 months of casting. He then

braced her which brought her down to 12 degrees. At that point he decreased her

brace time to 16 hours and she regressed to 28 degrees (this was in June 2006).

We just got home from his office today and she is back at 35 degrees and I am

waiting for his nurse to call and set the casting date.

Although I am happy with our doctor I would love the opportunity to get Dr.

Mehta's opinion. Sammy's fourth birthday will be Dec. 9 of this year.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Sincerely,

Esser

,

is with Olivia in Salt Lake City. Olivia had her first expansions

today. I will let know that people are responding to this post. She

hopes to start contacting people Thursday. If she calls me tonight I will let

her know that you are interested. Holly may be talking with her as well, I

don't know. I'm just watching the posts for a few days while she concentrates

on being a Mom.

WOW! This is great news that another ETTP is being held. What a great

opportunity for these children to be casted and examined by Miss Mehta and to

have their children be vital in helping other doctors learn this procedure so

hopefully they will take it back to their own practices and hospitals. I felt

fortunate to be a part of the last ETTP in Erie and really a once in a lifetime

chance to be seen by Miss Mehta. If Lexi weren't in a brace right now, I would

jump at this chance again. I hope that the parents of this group will take part

in this. ...congrats on getting another one scheduled.
