Guest guest
Hi Kerry, I sure know how that feels. I've been gaining weight about 5 lbs every year for several years now. If I exercise consistently then I lose weight...so for me that's the key. After I start exercising more then I will look at my food. Only thing I'm doing now with my food is taking myoplex bars to eat at work and drinking 1/2 glass of grapefruit juice before each meal (or should I say, I'm trying to.) Do you have a food journal that might help you...I HATE them so I won't use them but most people say it's a good idea. Guest guest
Hey Jen, What's a myoplex bar? Also, on food journaling.... I hated it for years but started doing it on the Weight Watchers website (you have to pay a subscription fee to use this part of the site though) and for some reason that is making it really easy and, now really necessary for me. There might be sites with free food journals you can do online or you can do your own just in Word if that is good for you too. I truly think writing it down (on the computer or on paper) is making me much more conscious of what is actually going in my mouth rather than just grabbing a handful of pretzels or whatever and munching them as I move from the kitchen to the couch (and repeat and repeat). I used to (and if I don't journal it now too) just forget that I did that mindless munching and when I write it down (type it for me) I'm very aware of it and am able to catch myself before I do the mindless munching (my biggest problem I think) and ask myself why am I doing it (am I bored, hungry, tired, emotional, stressed, etc.) and then find either something else to do (like exercise) or grab something healthier than the snacky food I was going to grab. As much as I honestly hate to admit it because I hated the journaling for so long, I think journaling has been a huge part of my success in losing weight. Not necessarily trying to convince you, just giving you a tale from the battlefield to consider or not! :-) Re: Jen's weigh-in for Monday September 18, 2006 Hi Kerry, I sure know how that feels. Guest guest
In my nutrition manual for one of the certificates I am taking now has a food pyramid w/ blank spaces. I think I am going to enlarge itand start filling up the spaces. I think it will help to see where I need to cut-back and where I need to add more food from a certain food group. Guest guest
I do the same thing as you Carolyn. I especially plan my dinners (my favorite meal) and know how many points that will be (for WW flex plan) and my snacks too then I plan my lunch (least favorite meal) around the remaining points (breakfast is usually the same thing, Fiber One cereal with raisins and skim milk, sounds boring but it doesn't bother me at all). Guest guest
Hi Jen, Yes I agree with you that exercise is key. Eating is a big part of it as well, I plan on grocery shopping today or tomorrow and will get healthy stuff. I've heard that grapefruit is supposed to help you with weight loss. I used to keep a food journal and was doing well with it until we went to Las Vegas in March then everything went by the wayside. I have had several starts and stops with exercise and am now back into regular exercise again. Maybe once I get serious about this I'll start tracking my food again. It is a pain, but very helpful. Guest guest
Hi , thanks for the advice and I've read that food journaling helps but right now I only want to focus on exercising everyday or at least every other day until it becomes a habit for me. I have a bad habit of eating only ONCE during the day then eating a lot at night when I get home from work or playing volleyball. My work schedule is crazy, I work mornings and evenings some days then other days I work afternoons and evenings so it's hard to eat. That's why I bought myoplex lite bars to eat as a snack. Here is a link: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/eas/myolitebar.html Take care, Jennancydewolf <nancydewolf@...> wrote: Hey Jen, What's a myoplex bar? Also, on food journaling.... Guest guest
Hi Jen, What you're doing is another thing I do... work on 1 thing at a time and build it into a habit before adding anything else. It has worked really well for me and regular exercise is my new goal too! :-) I've found when I try to do a whole bunch of new things at once I usually crash and burn on all of them and then just get frustrated and give up. No more of that! :-) Wow, your schedule does sound hard to deal with for eating. Thanks for the link too! Keep up the great work on your current piece of the health and fitness puzzle too!
