Guest guest
Hi all!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is great news about Solana and all the other kids in braces now or going into them it seems like the trend is starting to go into braces and I am thinking that is what we may be up against soon. I am trying to get every ones info that was casted and now in a brace especially the out of cast cobb numbers and if the curve is standing or lying down and any other info that might help us make a decision if this is the best way to go just yet... Thanks we have been off the group for a while and hoope to get into all of the stories now I think is is Jenn and Jake Own and Deshea and Lucas Joy and solana And anyone else who may believe they are going into a brace at the next appt Thanks I really appreciate it

Guest guest
Hi , I can't give you her out of 3rd cast measurements right now b/c I do not know what they were, they didn't discuss that with me over the phone, only that they look great & this last cast did what he expected & we can move forward w/the brace next visit. I'm assuming he'll give me the actual #'s once we are there & if not I'll most definitely be asking. I can tell you her measurements last time out of cast were in the teens, & her measurements in 3rd cast were 8o Cobb & 2o RVAD with little rotation. I'm assuming the x-rays are done laying down since the kids are under sedation when being casted. RE: her back out of cast right now, I can also tell you that visually it looks great, you can't tell there's anything wrong w/it & can barely notice any kind of curve when running your fingers along her spine. In addition, she's been out of cast for 3 weeks plus with no progression on angles & she currently is again going on 2 wks & it still looks great to me. I'm assuming all of the above is why the Dr. feels confident in moving into a brace but I of course would want to do whatever he reccommends.. even if it meant several more casts. Are you going to Shriner's too?? If so I would trust your Dr.'s opinion on the subject.. obviously your intuition on the matter counts too, if there were more of a visual aspect to my daughters current state of scoli. then I don't know I'd feel as comfortable w/no cast, but these Shriner's Dr.'s are of course the experts on early correction thus far! Take care & good luck, -Joy (M.O. Sol) > > Hi all!!!!!!!!!!!!! > > That is great news about Solana and all the other kids in braces now > or going into them > > it seems like the trend is starting to go into braces and I am > thinking that is what we may be up against soon. > > I am trying to get every ones info that was casted and now in a > brace especially the out of cast cobb numbers and if the curve is > standing or lying down > and any other info that might help us make a decision if this is the > best way to go just yet... > Thanks > > > we have been off the group for a while and hoope to get into all of > the stories now > > I think is is Jenn and Jake Own and Deshea and Lucas Joy and > solana > And anyone else who may believe they are going into a brace at the > next appt > > Thanks I really appreciate it >

Guest guest
Hi Owen's story is a little different from most. His scoliosis is (likely) secondary to a tethered spinal cord. After he had surgery we went back to Shriners to get casted (there was 6 months in between appts with the Shriners docs due to the surgery and other necessary testing). We were prepared to get a cast, but his spine was so flexible they were able to get him from 25 deg to 0 just under light traction. So, they thought a brace would be appropriate since he was basically at the point where kids would stop getting casted and start using a brace. While it might seem fortunate that he didn't need a cast, he had to have surgery on his spinal cord to get where he is today- no small feat. His worst measurement was 45deg (this was before surgery) We go back next week, hopefully to get a new brace, although they told us he may end up needing a cast if the brace wasn't working. I just found out yesterday that he has a smallish spinal fluid leak from the surgery (8 months ago) so hopefully they won't need to apply a cast so we can keep an eye on that. It never ends, does it! > > > > Hi all!!!!!!!!!!!!! > > > > That is great news about Solana and all the other kids in braces > now > > or going into them > > > > it seems like the trend is starting to go into braces and I am > > thinking that is what we may be up against soon. > > > > I am trying to get every ones info that was casted and now in a > > brace especially the out of cast cobb numbers and if the curve is > > standing or lying down > > and any other info that might help us make a decision if this is > the > > best way to go just yet... > > Thanks > > > > > > we have been off the group for a while and hoope to get into all > of > > the stories now > > > > I think is is Jenn and Jake Own and Deshea and Lucas Joy > and > > solana > > And anyone else who may believe they are going into a brace at the > > next appt > > > > Thanks I really appreciate it > > >
Guest guest
- Thanks Joy and for the responses I want to make sure that we are going into a brace that will hold the progress we made and not allow any rotation so we shall see..I usually have a hard time trusting anyone at this point but I must break free of that. if you are out there I would love to chat with you about the brace Lexi is in, if I can remember she was doing GREAT If anyone else can give me some feedback about braces I would love it Thanks again for you responses -- In infantile scoliosis treatment , " mosunshinebaby " <mosunshinebaby@...> wrote: > > Hi , > > I can't give you her out of 3rd cast measurements right now b/c I do > not know what they were, they didn't discuss that with me over the > phone, only that they look great & this last cast did what he > expected & we can move forward w/the brace next visit. Guest guest
, I've been off-board for a while. Sorry to have not replied sooner. After Jake's 3rd cast he was 10o and 6o with no rotation - lying down. In brace (made in Erie) he is 2o and 6o. We go back this week for his 3 month follow-up/check-up. Hope all is going well. Does this mean you and Adan are nearing the brace phase in the not so distant future? Good luck, & Jake <christinehrph@...> wrote: - Thanks Joy and for the responses I want to make sure that we are going into a brace that will hold the progress we made and not allow any rotation so we shall see..I usually have a hard time trusting anyone at this point but I must break free of that. if you are out there I would love to chat with you about the brace Lexi is in, if I can remember she was doing GREAT If anyone else can give me some feedback about braces I would love it Thanks again for you responses -- In infantile scoliosis treatment , " mosunshinebaby " <mosunshinebaby@...> wrote: > > Hi , > > I can't give you her out of 3rd cast measurements right now b/c I do > not know what they were, they didn't discuss that with me over the > phone, only that they look great & this last cast did what he > expected & we can move forward w/the brace next visit. Guest guest
I understand your concern Chrinstine, after all we can't get this growth that attained the correction back ever!! I've said I want to be conservative too w/bracing & stick to casting as long as we have too but they're in fact going ahead w/the brace.. so we'll see! Hopefully going through one for 2-3 mos. will give a good idea on whether it's working well. My husband is there w/her now in rcovery & I'm waiting to hear from him on how it all went & measurements, very anxious! Good luck, take care! ~Joy > > > > > > Hi all!!!!!!!!!!!!! > > > > > > That is great news about Solana and all the other kids in braces > > now > > > or going into them > > > > > > it seems like the trend is starting to go into braces and I am > > > thinking that is what we may be up against soon. > > > > > > I am trying to get every ones info that was casted and now in a > > > brace especially the out of cast cobb numbers and if the curve > is > > > standing or lying down > > > and any other info that might help us make a decision if this is > > the > > > best way to go just yet... > > > Thanks > > > > > > > > > we have been off the group for a while and hoope to get into all > > of > > > the stories now > > > > > > I think is is Jenn and Jake Own and Deshea and Lucas Joy > > and > > > solana > > > And anyone else who may believe they are going into a brace at > the > > > next appt > > > > > > Thanks I really appreciate it > > > > > >
