Guest guest
Thanks so much Carolyn! I've decided that since I have extra time to day (a luxury for me) I'm going to combine the two workouts doing the warm up and first aerobics (step) workout from the Kari tape and then switch over to the toning, stretching and cool down on the Sansone tape! I never would have thought about doing that without reading about some of the adventures some of you ladies (and at least one gentleman) put together for yourselves and can't wait until my kids leave for school so I can try it! Guest guest
Hi, ! I'm glad for your reviews. I am a Christian. This is the first time I've learned that there could be Christian music in an exercise video. I'm going to try to find a Sansone one soon. You're also right about step aerobics. It isn't the easiest for the choreography-challenged. I couldn't even follow a step workout on a local tv channel, when it was supposed to be basic and I was using an imaginary step. Haha. Guest guest
I think she only has 2 out with Christian music, both called Walk the Walk (this one was WTW Firm and is toning). I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds basic too challenging sometimes! :-) Thanks for the comments!!! Re: Novice/wimp/voice of the klutz videos reviews Hi, ! I'm glad for your reviews. Guest guest
Hi JM, If you like Christian music - Donna has a Sweatin' in the Spirit workout - actually two of them, that have gospel music. I also think that there is a Tae Bo out there with Christian music! Hope that helps! Donna --- " jm.0511 " <jm.0511@...> wrote: > Hi, ! I'm glad for your reviews. I am a > Christian. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for the reviews on the workouts you did. It's strange that Kari 's workout for beginners wasn't really geared for a beginner. To me a beginner workout should explain all the step and break down the moves. I'm not familiar with Kari's workouts at all, but my feeling is that if it's a beginner workout a beginner should be able to do it without too much trouble and aggravation. Sounds like 's workout was a good one especially if it made you feel confident and strong. Have fun shopping for weights, I just bought some "donut" weights that can be used on the wrists or legs, they weigh 1 and a half pounds each. They also have a velcro tab on them if you want to use more than one and attach them. These are a good way to up your regular weights a bit more slowly, so you aren't going from 3 lbs straight to 5 lb weights. Good luck in your search for great workouts. Have a great day, Kerry There's got to be someone out there besides me who is new to exercise videos and/or who hasn't been exercising in a long time and isn't ready to get ripped, shredded and whatever else some of you awesome women (and men) are doing so I thought I'd write reviews of two videos I've done recently (the only two I own... so far)! First, Kari 's Go: Step Workout for Beginners... if you have NEVER done step before then you would not say this is for beginners since she doesn't explain the moves very thoroughly but if you have some familiarity with step then you should be able to do fine with it, especially if you have a little more rhythm and coordination than me. I did step classes for years but not in a few years also and for the most part, I think I did fine. She seems to assume some knowledge and moves quickly from one kind of move to another, adding them together. It was too quick for my two left feet but that is what "rewind" is for I guess. There is a quick warm-up, 2 workouts (each 15 min) and a cool down with a little bit of stretching. It took me at least 4 times through to get comfortable with the first workout and I tried the 2nd but was already tired from the first and did not have the patience to keep hitting rewind to learn those steps too so that is my next challenge. It isn't complicated, I'm just VERY slow to get any kind of choreography and, like I said, she does move quickly from one move to another and, in my opinion, without really teaching them. She does them as a complete step and then says now you join in and adds on to them quickly. I'd prefer to see each new move broken down more into component moves (what each foot does, then what the arms do) and then put all together, especially on a video labeled for beginners. I'd prefer someone to explain and demonstrate instead of just show what it looks like. (I took step classes and the woman teaching it, who became a good friend of mine, always broke it down, took it really slow outside of the choreography and then put it all together and then inside the routine and that was really helpful. That's the only exercise class I've ever enjoyed or even felt mildly competent in so that's what I expect and hope for out of "beginner" videos, maybe it is too much to ask for though.) Anyway, once you get the routines down it is a quick, enjoyable workout (but not enough stretching for me). I like having the option of doing just 30 minutes (warm-up to cool down with one 15 minute routine) when I don't have much time but want to do something. I can see wanting to add risers to my steps after doing this for a while (since I'm just starting back into exercising and because I'm less than 5' tall, my step is on the floor for now). Next is Walk the Walk - Firm Walk from Sansone. This was my first Sansone experience and I was really happy about it! This is a toning video, not one of her walking videos. It also has some Christian music but mostly instrumental music I didn't recognize and a very (very) light Christian touch to what she says. If you're not Christian you probably won't mind it (I was not raised Christian so I tend to be sensitive for looking out for those kinds of things, that's why I say that). This is my first ever toning video too and I really enjoyed it. She explains and demonstrates everything in detail and repeatedly tells you that even if you don't use weights for it you're still getting an awesome workout, especially if you're a beginner. That reassurance made me (a beginner) feel really good about what I was doing. She made me feel confident and strong plus stretched and toned! It was 40 minutes from warm up to cool down and worked arms, legs, abs and probably others and I definitely felt like I'd worked when I was done even though it was slow and gentle. I am going to get weights and use them for some of it right away and others I'll definitely need to wait on, my muscles are not used to doing some of that kind of stuff (sitting and typing on a computer just doesn't count as exercising your arms much I guess). I am getting some of her walking videos from a woman in one of my local freecycle groups and I'm really looking forward to trying those out too. That's it for now from the novice/wimp/klutz perspective! :-)
Guest guest
Hi Carolyn, My workout time today was fun and relaxing, I felt great when I got done. Going through the first Kari workout only once (I usually go through it twice) felt kind of wimpy because I know I didn't work that hard with it (maybe it is time to add a riser) but adding the Sansone was great. It was nice to have an hour to work out. Reading YOUR messages usually give ME motivation and a lot of encouragement, thank you so much!! Guest guest
Hi Kerry, Kari 's really is a beginner workout in that it doesn't have complicated choreography and it is a short, light workout, at least the first one is but it is her presentation that makes it less of a true beginner workout. It is a beginner workout once you know a little about step I think which makes it more like advanced beginner I guess. Thanks for the tips on the weights, I like the idea of adjustable especially. Guest guest
Wow, 60 out of 90 is still fantastic and way better than someone who did 0 out of 90 or 30 out of 90! I know what you're saying about consistency... it is the key to everything and yet I fumble with the lock all the time! :-) Re: Novice/wimp/voice of the klutz videos reviews Slideshow | Print at Home | Order Prints | Save to: My Photos or My Computer Click a photo to view a larger version on Photos.
