Bobbie, the fact that you're falling a lot puts you in danger. If you break or

severely sprain something from a fall, I'm sure it would be difficult to care

for your little ones, not to mention further hinder your ability to get around.

Please talk to your doctor about getting AFOs (partial leg braces) along with a

cane or walker if you need it. Wearing my AFOs is the only thing that keeps me

walking without falling. Hang in there, and don't be afraid to ask for help

when you need it from your family and friends.

Welcome to Bobbie. Thanks for jumping in to introduce yourself.

There is some basic CMT information in our Files area. But mainly we

learn from each other.

As for the falling and balance, perhaps orthotics or Ankle Foot

Orthotics (AFOs) would help. Ask your neurologist to recommend a couple

of certified orthotists. Also, I have found that New Balance shoes are

really great - comfortable too. Balance can be helped by Physical Therapy -

something else to ask your neurologist to recommend.

As for the pain, many of us experience pain, mine is limited to my

feet, and is a burning feeling - it comes and goes. I take a medication

for this, and also treat my feet to cool lotions, ice packs, or

Biofreeze.

My CMT friends and Heidi here have 5 kids each and will be of more help

that I am in managing little ones.

As for SSDI, go to the website, bookmark it and read a little at a time.

http://www.ssa.gov there is also a very good group called Disinissues

which you might find to be helpful.

Hello Bobbie,

Nice to hear from you...and thanks for sharing with us. We all have different

symptoms, and there are days that you would feel better in yourself...believe

me. The thing is do not panic, or give up!

There are so many things you could try. For instance, go to the swimming pool,

and see a physiotherapist to start with the right exercises could be a begining

to you.

Peharps have a good supplemments too. Eat the right food , etc.

We have bad and good days too, but we have to carry on and hope that

tomorrow will be a better day for all of us.

Have you done all your tests? Blood tests, etc.? Please, feel free to email me

when you want to. I am Joana from London. Have a Great Day and Stay Peaceful

Jo

Hi Bobbie,

Welcome to the group. You'll get alot of advice, information, support and

understanding here. I have type 2 CMT and have the numb feet and pain. I've

noticed my balance becoming a little off but not that bad yet. I've only known

about CMT since January and I learn new things everyday. I don't use them

myself, and I'm sure others will have suggestions for you, but it sounds like

AFOs will help you. As for you getting tired quickly..yes that is very common

with CMT because it takes more energy to do normal, everyday things. Pace

yourself, take naps, and don't worry about getting everything done on your

'to-do- list. Others can give you more advice on supplements to take,

exercises to do, etc. A good neurologist will be able to help you with all of

this and also the MDA.

Elaina.
