Guest guest
i forgot to post that in the july parents magazine in one of the front sections that are very small short segments that they mentioned there is a rise in infantile scoliosis cases. i've been meaning to scan it in and post it but haven't gotten around to it. i can't find the same thing on their website otherwise i would post the link. the doc they interviewed, i had never heard of. if i'm remembering correctly, they also said that usually it resolves, but nothing else about treatment if it doesn't. deshea

Guest guest
Deshea, let me know if you can't find your copy. I have my July issue and found the very small article. No wonder I didn't see it the first time I looked through it. Anyway I can scan it and send it to if you need me to. Tasha " Deshea L. Guest guest
Deshea, So glad you saw this! Now, that the increase of infantile scoliosis has been acknowledged, we can inform them of the best way to treat this potentially devistating condition. If everyone sent the editor of Parent a letter, they would surely be interested. Deshea can you locate the editors e-mail/address, and pass it on? If anyone out there has a free moment, and would like to help with awareness, please send your thoughts/experience on early treatment to the editor of this mag. Also, Deshea, can you please send the article to me privately. Thanks, HRH parents magazine > > > > i forgot to post that in the july parents magazine > > in one of > > the front sections that are very small short > > segments that > > they mentioned there is a rise in infantile > > scoliosis cases. > > i've been meaning to scan it in and post it but > > haven't gotten > > around to it. i can't find the same thing on their > > website > > otherwise i would post the link. the doc they > > interviewed, i > > had never heard of. if i'm remembering correctly, > > they also > > said that usually it resolves, but nothing else > > about > > treatment if it doesn't. > > > > deshea > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been > > removed] > > > > > >
Guest guest
heather, i'll have to wait until i get home this evening to send you the better version of the scanned page since it is on my home computer. here's what i found on the web regarding the editor of parents magazine: 375 Lexington Avenue New York, NY 10017-5514 212-499-2130 Online: www.parents.com PARENTS Circulation: 2.2 million Frequency: 12/year Publisher: Jan Studin Editor-in-Chief: Sally Lee (no e-mail addresses given) Also here's information on writing an article: Parents Writer's Guidelines TO: Prospective Writers FROM: The Editors of Parents and Parents.com Parents Article Requirements Thank you for your interest in Parents and Parents.com. We're always looking for new talent to add to our pool of writers. Before you send your query to us, please take the time to look at the guidelines below. They're designed to help you write an effective query letter in a form that's easy for us to read and respond to. Thank you again for your interest. 1. Before you query us, please take a close look at our magazine at the library or newsstand. This will give you a good idea of the different kinds of stories we publish, as well as their tempo and tone. In addition, please take the time to look at the masthead to make sure you are directing your query to the correct department. 2. When querying us, please send a one-page letter detailing the topic you'd like to address as well as your strategy for writing the story. Demonstrate that you are adept at doing research by mentioning the kinds of sources you intend to use. Keep in mind that all of our articles include expert advice and real-parent examples as well as study data. It's unnecessary to send a completed manuscript; a query letter will do. 3. We generally work only with writers who have some experience, so please make sure you list the publications you've written and include photocopied examples of your published work. Do not send originals, as we cannot guarantee their return. 4. We receive many submissions for essays; typically, we only publish those that come from experienced writers and essayists. 5. We're a national publication, so we're mainly interested in stories that will appeal to a wide variety of parents. For example, developmental service ideas for specific age groups are always welcome. In addition, we're always looking for compelling human-interest stories, so you may want to check your local newspaper for ideas. Keep in mind that we can't pursue stories that have appeared in competing national publications. 6. We don't publish any unsolicited fiction or poetry; any children's books we excerpt are acquired strictly through book publishers. 7. Because of the large volume of queries and manuscripts we receive, it generally takes about four to six weeks for us to reply, so please be patient. 8. Always send a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Parents Magazine 375 Lexington Avenue New York, NY 10017 Phone: 212-499-2000 hope this helps. deshea ---- Original message ---- >Date: Mon, 17 Jul 2006 07:53:52 -0600 >From: " heather hyatt " <heather@...> >Subject: Re: parents magazine ><infantile scoliosis treatment > > > Deshea, > > So glad you saw this! Guest guest
About two years ago (correct me if I am wrong ) I looked up most children's hospital websites and compiled them into a list for . While I was at the websites I tried to look for their treatment methods to see what was being promoted. I do not remember them ever mentioning serial casting as an option. Yet now here it is. But they have not be trained in Miss Mehta's method. Curious to me and I wonder what kind of results they really get. Just my own musing. All the more reason to get correct info on infantile scoliosis out to the public so they can be informed. Shellie a L.
