Hi Everyone,

I haven't had too much time to keep up on posts recently, I wanted

to post before we left so Sol would be in everyone's

thoughts/prayers, luckily all went well regardless! We arrived Mon.

to have her cast removed, skin looked great & so did her back, to

the visible eye it looked pretty straight with even shoulder blades

& such, the spine even felt fairly straight when running my finger

along it. So Tues after she was put under & had her next cast

applied Dr. came in w/her results, out of cast & in new cast

x-rays & he had wonderul news for us. He first said that her back

looks great, he informed that her out of cast x-rays measured 17o

Cobb & 11o RVAD & her in new cast x-rays measured 7o Cobb & only 2o

RVAD! And that we can plan on going ahead & fitting her for a brace

@ our next visit!! I was so happy I cried, I can't believe that our

goal is coming so quick. I got to meet & Cole there too &

she reminded me that Jake is it? only had to go through like 3 or 4

casts too.. I think the fact that her curve isn't termed or referred

to as rigid has aided in the correction process.. she also went

through a lot of growth in this last cast she had on. Dr.

also felt comfortable with going ahead with the waterproof cast for

this one since her curve is down so far so I couldn't be more

thrilled about that either, it's been pretty hot this summer & the

last month she was really having a hard time with not being able to

splash in the pool water or bath water so I'm so happy to give this

a try, hopefully we won't loose any ground, I'm just choosing to

stay hopeful & positive about that.. I love the size & weight of it,

I'll post a pic when I have a chance. So all in all this was such a

great trip with the good news that came along with it, makes me all

the more thankful we chose to take the Shriners casting route & go

see Dr. !

We just missed you by a a week Amy & Addy, good luck with your guys'

trip there next week!!

Take care,

Joy & Solana

WOW!!! That is awesome news Joy. I can't remember how old she is...can you

refresh my memory? I am curious because I am wondering if her curve corrected

so fast because she is younger. Also, what were her cobb numbers prior to

casting? In any case, I am super happy for you.

Hi Joy,

That is amazing news!!!! I am so very happy for all of you. I'm sure Solana

and big sister are very happy to be able to splash together again.

Addy and I are leaving Monday for Erie. I'm hoping to let her swim at the

hotel pool that night after her cast is removed(or at least a nice long bath).

When are you heading back to Erie again?

Best wishes and Enjoy the summer.

Hi ! she's 21 mos. Her first cast was applied 1/23 @ 15

mos. & on for 3 mos., she had that 3 week break with no progression

& then the 2nd one applied 5/17 @ 19 mos. & this 3rd one applied

7/11 @ 21 mos... So as you can see she's 6, almost 7 mos. total into

casting treatment. She measured 53 COBB & 45 RVAD BEFORE the FIRST

cast application. 7 COBB & still 45 RVAD AFTER first cast

application... she settled to 15 COBB in her first cast, 45 RVAD.

Her out of first cast measured 28 COBB & 30 something RVAD. She

measured 8 COBB & 18 RVAD in 2nd cast. Her out of second cast I

believe he said she measured 17 COBB & 11 RVAD which means

apparently the RVAD continued to improve while growing in the cast I

guess?? Didn't think to ask about that one but I should have, the

same thing happend in her first cast, the initial RVAD measured a

lot higher than the RVAD once the cast was removed, almost as if it

had decreased in time with the growth you know? I guess it's

possible I'm getting the #'s confused but I wrote them down

immediately after we spoke w/the Dr. & I'm pretty sure they're

accurate. And she measured 7 COBB & 2 RVAD in this third one.

I'm not sure why the fast turn around, I feel like it's almost too

good to be true so I'm not getting my hopes up just yet, was awesome

news & such yes, thanks for the happy wishes! But again just seems

too fast & too good to be true so I'm definitely going to brace

ourselves & pray until the next appt. & hope that we get as good of

news as we expect & things continue to progress the way they have..

until that happens & her brace measurements are taken I'm still a

tad apprehensive you know, so we'll be crossing our fingers & just

enjoying this little waterproof cast for now!! :)

How is Ian doing? When is his next casting date? Well hope all is

well on your guys' front!

Take care,

Joy & Sol

Thanks Amy!! Hopefully it continues on this path, you know!

Are you guys staying @ the Clarion again? We couldn't get a room

there this time due to short notice, they were booked due to

summertime there. So my husband booked a Best Western 15 miles away

which turned out to be a total trucker stop & we didn't end up using

their pool! :) But also, did you know that most of the nearby

hotels give discounted rates for Shriner's patients? I did not know

that but they gave me a list when I was there, that Clarion is on

it. In any case, I'm sure she'll enjoy her bath, Sol kept getting

out & wanting to get back in again so we just ended up running one

for her all through the evening too! :)

We are scheduled next for Sept. 9th! You'll have to let me know

when you get your next date too. We'll probably miss out by a week

again now that we're on this schedule but we'll see I guess!

Hope the summer is great for you & your family too, hope all is well

with Addy.. I'm sure you can't wait to get a new one on, ours was so

dirty & smelly by the time her appt. came, we were glad to see it

go! :)

Take care,

Joy & Sol

AWESOME. Congratulations to Sol and enjoy this moment.

Marissa's Dad

Solana's 2nd Trip to Erie

Hi Everyone,

I've been behind on posts recently, I wanted to post before we left

so Sol would be in everyone's thoughts/prayers but luckily all went

well anyway! We arrived on Mon. to have her cast removed, her skin

looked good & so did her back, no visually noticable rib hump or

uneveness of the shoulder blades & her spine felt pretty straight

when running your fingers along it. So after her new cast was

applies Tues. we got her out of cast x-ray & in new cast x-ray

measurements, Dr. Sander's started off with saying her back looks

really good. Her out of cast measures were 17o Cobb & 11o RVAD, her

in new cast measures were 7o Cobb & 2o RVAD! And Dr.

informed us that we can go ahead and plan on measuring her for a

brace next visit!! I was so happy I cried, I couldn't believe we're

approaching our goal already.. We got to meet & Cole there

too & she reminded me that Jake is it? Only had to go through 3 or 4

casts before bracing too.. I think that fact that her curve isn't

termed or referred to as rigid has aided in the correction process

too. She also grew a lot in this last cast. Dr. also felt

comfortable with trying the waterproof cast being that her curve is

pretty low, we're thrilled about that too of course, she's had a

hard time this past month with no bathing or pool splashing since

it's been so hot & her sister is able to do all of that, so I'm so

happy about that & am just choosing to stay hopeful that we don't

loose ground.. I love the size & weight of course too, I'll post a

pic. when I've a chance! So all in all it was such a great trip

being that we got such great news especially, made me all the more

comfortable, happy, & thankful that we chose to take the Shriner's &

casting route & bring her to Dr. , though I know we're not

completely out of the woods yet & still have a lot to go through, we

are just so greatful to him & the progress he's made so far, it's a

miracle to me!

Amy & Addy we just missed you guys by a week this time, good luck

next week with your visit!

Take care,

Joy & Solana.

Well, then she wasn't any younger than Ian because his first cast was applied at

the same age his was applied. I guess every kid responds differently. I am

glad the casting process may be over for you so quickly. I hope she enjoys the

waterproof cast. I really wish Ian could have one right now because the heat is

unbearable.

Ian gets his 5th cast next Wednesday the 18th. Keep your fingers crossed that

we get better results than last time!

Solana's 2nd Trip to Erie

Hi Everyone,

Hi Joy,

I enjoyed meeting you and your husband and of course darling Sol. I think her

progress is coming along nicely. I agree with you that her back and posture

looked great. How much longer did you stay at Shriner's that Tues afternoon?

How was the flight home?

I've been crazy busy since we returned home on Tues, so haven't had a chance to

post about Cole. I will as soon as I get more time. Quickly, Cobb was 8 degrees

and RVAD was 6. He is in a waterproof cast again and will probably have one more

cast after this one, but I might even go for one more since he is only 16 months

and still has lots of pre 2 year old growth left.

To all of you that have posted lately, even though I have't responded (very

busy), I do read all your posts and remember you all in my prayers.

Take Care,

and Cole

it was so nice to meet you both too! Cole is too adorable

& Solana was asking long after you left, Where's Cole? Where Cole

go? She even walked out the door once going Cole, where r u Cole?

LOL, swear to gosh, was too funny! We were there for just a short

while longer, the flight home was wonderful, quick & easy, Solana

slept most of the way so we got to watch a movie. So nice that your

drive isn't much at all, glad you both made it home safe as well!

Keep posted, I understand busy all too well... You guys take care &

enjoy his water proof cast again, hope ours works well like his last

one. Enjoy the rest of your summer if I don't talk to you & your

vacation out this way too!! Best wishes~ -Joy
