Scientists Find a Switch that Renews Sperm-Producing Stem Cells

HHMI researchers have discovered a master genetic switch that regulates

the self-renewal of sperm-producing stem cells. Mice that were

genetically engineered to lack the switch quickly exhausted their sperm-

producing stem cells, rendering them incapable of producing sperm.

Research published in the August 18, 2005, issue of Nature.
