My experience in this: at age 10, I had tendon surgery on both feet. I am 52 now and that is the only foot surgery I had. I believe it has helped me very much. I hope you have received several opinions about your foot surgery and have found a good, long experienced, orthopedist who specializes in feet and knows about CMT. Before surgery too, it is important to meet with the anesthesiologist and inform her/him of CMT.
